Scenario

OP is posting somehting that clearly violates the rules, whether it is a picture to a shock site or a view so outrageous that it leaves the mods no other choice then to blacklist him/her.

Now picture this, the mods doesnt have time to look through every thread every second so before theyve found this violation one or several people might already have quoted the OP. Shouldnt it go without saying that these people should be blacklisted too?

Ive seen a couple of cases now where links and other violations have just been left to be, in some cases the thread havent even been locked. This strikes me as a little odd since the people replying are not just bumping spam, something that single handed sends repliers to topics in the wrong forums on a vacation, but also manifested the original offense. You can also add to it that theyre most certainly incompetent douche bags who wants to make sure that OP is getting busted, before he edits, but havent figured out the right way yet, the right way being the report button.

Just a thought.

Yep, I think they should get a punishment. They are replying to spam and also just cross posting what shouldn't be there in the first place. It's up to the mod what he/she should do though. But ya, you don't have to quote the post. The report button should do the trick itself. =D

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

That's pretty much what the report button is for. If the situation is bad enough however, I would suggest sending a link of the thread to a moderator VIA private message. Describe to them the issue that you have with the thread/posters, and let them do what they feel is right. Most commonly however, the moderators will edit out the naughty bits and instead replace the URL with that of teletubbies.com.

You post a link to something that violates the rules, you get banned. I don't see how quoting it and hitting 'submit' is any different. The quoter is still choosing to post the link and therefore should be banned.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

If people reply to topics that are obviously spam they usually get a short ban. This is because the people that reply to spam are the ones that keeps the spam "alive".
But there are replies to spam topics that don't get you blacklisted: An example would be the people who redirect people to the appropriate forum. (Even though I think people should just use the report button, and then send the OP a PM telling him where to post.)

What you say about spam topics that were not locked - that might simply be because the moderators didn't notice it. They're humans just like us.

EDIT: Changed one word.

The mods are alittle inconsistent.

I've seen a 100 reply asking for recon armor thread that nobody was banned in. I was like WTF?

Other mods would have done the right thing by blasting everyone in that thread.

Also if someone is redirecting and they get blacklisted - that is bull-blam!- as far as I'm concerned.

Also if you ask a question and it has been answered then edit your title to answered or something.

Lastly we don't need anymore mods becasue to a certain extent were all mods as it is.

I think I know the thread that has caused you to write this. If we are both thinking of the same incident that happened tonight, the quoting was to make sure the link was not edited out so at a later time so the mod would be unable to see it. It's a double-edged sword really. It provides the mods with the evidence of the crime, but also bumps the thread to make it more visible to others. In this case I don't think they should also be banned, as they were assisting the mod by making sure the OP's post was intact when said mod arrives.

The mods can see edits before editing I believe.

By the way, Foman's mom is on special tonight -- $2 for an hour.
I would hope that the mods do not consider a quote as evidence of another poster's bad post. As you can see from the above quote, that's easy enough to fake.

The Report Button is the proper way to deal with bad posts. If the user sees the error of his ways and edits the post before a moderator arrives, then there's no harm, no foul.

mods can edit other peoples post. Now if they quoted it a million times purposely. Then they would obviously get back listed.

I'm thinking of making a dedicated macro on my keyboard to automatically report threads. I'll even make a custom button for it. ^_^

But yes, a rule is a rule. Don't give someones thread a bump if it is off topic or immature. Report

Now to get to that macro....
