Ya tons of bumpers in those threads.

I just take my pics and throw'em up on Bittorent. Plently of exposure there because theres hardly no Halo 3 stuff on there.

{SP} will be missing 2 more members in alittle while.

these are the group tags for different screenshot photogrphy groups

originally the group: Ar7is7s of Halo had a few pics out with the tag {AoH} on them

then members of the group Screenshot Photographers (like myself) began posting a TON of photos with the tag [SP] on them... this is where it got big

these 2 groups are ***THE ORIGINAL TWO PHOTOGRAPHY GROUPS****, who initially put up these tags

now, smaller, recently created, and overall low quality (no i am not making assumptions, this is a TRUE FACT) groups are springing up all over the place... mainly to get to put tags on their photos

TIP is one of them (team ice photo) this group however is poorly organized, lacks experience among members and was created with few things in mind other than self promotion...

now more and more of these little groups keep popping into existence and there is seemingly nothing we can do to stop it...

here is a link to our group, the Screenshot Photographers

hopefully this helped...
Wow. Now THAT is an impressive amount of hypocrisy packed into one post. And no, it doesn't "help."

I consider these "tags" to be nothing more than illegal group advertisements in the wrong forum and spam on top of that. The tags are merely attention-grabbers and for anybody to act outraged to the point where you are blatantly using this forum to insult users because they are in other groups besides yours and acting indignant that somebody else would tag their post (how dare anybody except members of YOUR group post attention-grabbing subject lines) is ludicrous.

I foresee that the group "tags" will come to an end soon, as they are getting out of hand quickly. I saw an entire thread in the Screenshots Forum today that had been hijacked with an argument about which group was "allowed" to post the stupid subject line tags.

Moreover, these groups seem to be forming "bumping" parties whereby members of the group are either obligated or encouraged to "bump" the screenshots of other group members. The subject line tags serve to help other group members quickly identify which threads to go post a "5/5 lol" in. This is not helpful or beneficial to the vast majority of other users who are NOT in these groups. I do not want to reach the point where I feel like my screenshot/map/gametype/film is going to fall off the first page within thirty seconds unless I affiliate myself with a powerful group that will help me out by bumping my post. That's cheating.

I am strongly opposed to these subject line tags, which cause nothing but trouble and serve absolutely no justifiable purpose.

i agree completely... given the NEW circumstances of this problem...

i was explaining how INITIALLY, we used these tags

now, like you, i believe it to be a serious problem... please dont be mistaken

we have brought it up to the group, i have asked for mod help, we are even in the process of creating a designated role for a few members specifically to TONE DOWN the amount of these tags...

so as you can see... we originally used these meaning no harm, but as we now realize the consequences, we (or at least i) am doing as much as i can to help put an end to it

sorry foman for the apparent hypocrisy

Its so obvious he is replying to a question, and the guy got banned for something else. It's not a bump. geez...

I reported over 75 posts by SP and TIP today for either obvious bumping or crossposting.

All 75+ were violations.

I don't report based on replying to others either.

the only reason the tags started out at first, was to signify [this photo was taken by someone serious about screenshot photography / its most likely worth your while]... this was the original standpoint, and it is what i supported

now it seems to signify: [hey everyone, look my pic MUST be great, it has an acronym / hey everyone else in my group... please support and bump this for me!!!]... this is what i DONT support, and which is the problem

so stop flaming about "bumping parties", group wars, among other things, or at least do it in the mindset that i want no part of it, nor do i condone it...

im sure ninjas will do something about this, which is what im trying to find out, if there is a viable solution that DOESNT involve wiping out the group, or anything like that...

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

Regarding Bumping

We, as the staff, do not encourage bumping of group images. That's in the rules of the group. However, as Terrab pointed out, we do not have control over our members actions. If it is discovered that there are shamless bumping taking place, other than general commenting, action will be taken.

I don't expect any groups to be wiped out.

I don't hate these groups, I just see it to be a major problem developing.

Don't make me start linking how your members act sometimes.

1 mod has already weighed in on Page 1, I'm curious as to what the other mods think.

...while thats very cute of you... for the 4th time: we don't control how our members act! if poor behavior is noticed, the user will be warned, and if it persists, he will be kicked out... its as simple as that... by attacking a few peoples questionable actions that does NOT translate directly to the group....

if you want you can ask halcylon, im sure its rather tough to keep up with EVERY member's behavior as a group mod... i assure you though, when that is taken into account, it is dealt with

Sounds like your only reporting people who belong in our group. Well, thats not nice.

Beside. TIP is hardly a group. They have advertising threads and break TONS of rules...No one gets whats up with them. Beside, many SP members only ask for commenting in fellow SP members threads. Not linking! Asking. That's not crossposting either.

What mod? on what thread? I cant find it...

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

We totally see everyone's point. Point of fact is that we didn't promote that idea in group. It kind of snowballed. Right now we are debating on whether to keep the idea at all. I understand your issue with it. How can we just promote and comment on our images?

Well, regardless of what it looks like, we spend a lot of time in the community viewing and commenting other images not a part of SP. We have major threads and links that promote, whats now call "outsider art", and that allows each member to link non-member images to our forum.

SP has no intention of becoming a threat to anyone or anything put down on this site. The idea to create group where serious photographers and designers can come together and share ideas, images, and outside projects was the founding value.

Fact: SP has crossed lines that need to be resolved and the staff is moderating as best we can.

Do not hold it against the entire group if a few members, outside the bounds of the group, share their own personal values. Those members, as we stated earlier, will be dealt with within the group.

Fair point. I'm not saying we've gotten them all, nor can we prevent them from doing that, but action has been and will be taken on anyone who is responsible for bumping.

nothing more regarding that topic can be argued now... as this perfectly explains our stance on the subject... not all 90-something members can be kept under watch all of the time

Pretty much what Halcylon said.

We are weeding out members who break the rules, and are trying methods to enforce our rules.

People need to relax, and wait for the change. It will happen. Be patient. Thats all we can ask now.

I know what the hell crossposting is.

Just saw a guy make a new thread who even admitted hes not in SP but put it there just for promotion reasons.

If your breaking rules then its my 100% right to focus in on SP threads.

Only reason is because of a lot of bumping/double posting going on in those.

I report 100+ at any 15 minute interval in anytime of the day of anyone who bumps. Caught a guy bumping 24 times the other day.

If you want I can pm you guys the links anytime.

Also I'm not against you guys, and I'm not out to get you either. But this title stuff is only going to escalate.

Discussipon is not over either.

---while we are all THOUROUGHLY impressed at your dexterity and ability to report questionable behavior on internet forums.......

it is unfair in every way to create absolute generalizations of a group concerning a small number of certain members' behavior...

had the group itself chosen to do this, then by all means, tear it apart

the fact is we do not do this, a few members do, they will be dealt with, until then, please be quiet

If I look into certain threads and don't see any violations, well I don't report anyone.

Occasionally I do go in there and I DO focus on ALL threads with many replies, and at least 1/4 of the time its full of bumpers.

I'm currently uploading away on Bittorent and watching some TV, so I got free time to go look in there for a few minutes.

  • 02.12.2008 5:02 PM PDT

Cool at least we know something is being done.

Not all your members do it, but some do and its wrong.

if we didn't get this resolved now then you guys would be wiped off Bnet for a very long time and that shouldn't happen to the whole group when only a few are major rule breakers.

  • 02.12.2008 5:07 PM PDT

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

We aren't infringing on any rules, however, when it comes to the [SP] tag. That is neither here nor there. The bumping and cross bumping will be addressed

  • 02.12.2008 5:08 PM PDT
  • gamertag: [none]
  • user homepage:

The whole tag thing is ridiculous anyway. Implying that your screenshot is "professional" when you're still just taking pictures on a video game is silly. Just because you're in a group doesn't make you the alpha and omega of what's "professional".

And you can't control who posts pictures with your tag on them. Someone who isn't even in your group (i.e. Me) could go and post a -blam!- screenshot with [SP] in the title. What are you going to do? Nothing, really. You could report it as spam, but it's not spam, so we won't lock it. You could contact a mod and ask them to lock it, but that opens the floodgates for anyone to contact a mod and ask us to lock anyone's threads.

If we catch you cross-posting and bumping each other's threads, action will be taken. I suggest instead, you make a direct link to the picture in a thread in your group and discuss it there. Let the general public express themselves on the public forums.

And please pay attention to who you're sending invitations to your group to. If I get another one, I will scream.
