My concerns are this, firstly why is it that the trust colours from the main forums corresponding here too. How stupid is it for people in the main forums to appear to have higher ranks than the admins of groups, should it not be the group admins job to be able to assign these colours?
Well... it isn't stupid, because they DO have higher trust ratings than the admins of the groups. And the colors aren't security ranks - member, heroic, legendary, and mythic members are all the same security level ("Member").
It is called "positive reinforcement." And although it was somewhat unintentional, right now I have no intention of changing it. The trust rating is global to the site, and actions in groups have an affect on it, so the positive reinforcement should not be confined to the public.
Next advertisements in groups. Why? I understand that this is bungie.net, we have no rights, we play nice but they pop up all the time barinwashing us "work for bungie, get the fire" and I don't want to see it ALL the time.
Because, first of all, they aren't ads (they are banner navigation links that could become ads should we choose), and if they did become ads, they would do so in order to fund running this site. This site is fairly expensive to run, and considering how nice and non-obtrusive the banners are (and even can be blocked with something like adblock), I think you'll live.
Please bungie reconsider. The trust system especially is an annoying feature (in groups as it stands) that I think needs to be rectified.
On the contrary, I think the trust system has be a very successful experiment, and based on the data I've collected, is a remarkably accurate predictor of behavior. Expect more positive reinforcement for people who maintain good trust raitings. And considering that the only impact you see of it in a group so far is a different color bar, I think you'll live. If it bothers you that much, use Firefox and define a custom style sheet to change the colors. It is fairly easy to do.
This is another problem I have. Why should these colours make people stand out. It seems to suggest "we are more important look at our post's" I can imagine mythic members will have their post's quoted a LOT while regular members will be ignored something which I think is a problem with the new system.
Except experience shows that all it does is encourage people to be positive contributors, and also provides a perk for those that have been around and contributed.
I am REALLY tired of these types of complaints. "Elitism" you cry, yet I have NEVER seen what you say will happen here to any large degree. And those that skew in that direction get quickly slapped down by either the moderators or the community in general, and learn their place. I wasn't kidding before when I was thinking about bringing back post counts and join dates, just because that's how annoyed I am at this kind of baseless fear.
If you see someone acting like that, report them. Simple as that. They get banned, and then their title vanishes. Problem solved. Again, do you REALLY think it was a coincidence that the spam reporting tool appeared at the same time the titles popped up?
