Wow fancy schmancy. I like the "last post by" - and the arrow to take you there. Much needed, and very nice. The ads are really well integrated, and I have noticed they will be very useful to people who may be new to the site - the heatmaps, the Halo 3 guide - very well done, and I think a great help to the community, especially the BNet saplings.
The color changes in the threads actually look pretty good to me. The mods and Bungie employees stand out accordingly, but everyone else pretty much blends in together.
All in all, Bungie.net has a purdy mouth.

And what's up with the reply and preview functionality? Those views don't show avatars anymore, and we get this blank space above our reply when previewing.

Just a side note- the Jobs page is totally slickified - but what cracks me up is the first picture you see is Frankie (I think) holding a BR. For some reason, that just amuses me to no end.

Wankery? Is that even a word?

Oh and K Mart deserves a title becoming someone of his stature. I think Blue Light Special would fit.

I think if the moderator and admin bars didn't have a border, they'd look better.

Right now they are pretty much the definition of "Dear Lord, my eyes."

...

I am a discounted product? Cruel, yet it does carry across the intended value of hilarity. Though I'd prefer something more conspicuous, like swashbuckling pirate or rescue toaster.

Of course, I'd also like a nicer car, a rocket ship, and my own island.

I like the new colors.

But I'm colorblind, so my opinion doesn't count as much.

We have so much in common. <3

Also, everyone I'm going to stop posting because being a mythic member isn't special anymore. I mean, antiherosk8er?

.

Woah, Woah , Woah! I thought you loved me? You even told me i was special.

I definitely like the new update. Everything seems to fit together better. Also, the banners on the side look much better than the Stickies/Top forum topics.

My concerns are this, firstly why is it that the trust colours from the main forums corresponding here too. How stupid is it for people in the main forums to appear to have higher ranks than the admins of groups, should it not be the group admins job to be able to assign these colours?

Well... it isn't stupid, because they DO have higher trust ratings than the admins of the groups. And the colors aren't security ranks - member, heroic, legendary, and mythic members are all the same security level ("Member").

It is called "positive reinforcement." And although it was somewhat unintentional, right now I have no intention of changing it. The trust rating is global to the site, and actions in groups have an affect on it, so the positive reinforcement should not be confined to the public.

Next advertisements in groups. Why? I understand that this is bungie.net, we have no rights, we play nice but they pop up all the time barinwashing us "work for bungie, get the fire" and I don't want to see it ALL the time.

Because, first of all, they aren't ads (they are banner navigation links that could become ads should we choose), and if they did become ads, they would do so in order to fund running this site. This site is fairly expensive to run, and considering how nice and non-obtrusive the banners are (and even can be blocked with something like adblock), I think you'll live.

Please bungie reconsider. The trust system especially is an annoying feature (in groups as it stands) that I think needs to be rectified.

On the contrary, I think the trust system has be a very successful experiment, and based on the data I've collected, is a remarkably accurate predictor of behavior. Expect more positive reinforcement for people who maintain good trust raitings. And considering that the only impact you see of it in a group so far is a different color bar, I think you'll live. If it bothers you that much, use Firefox and define a custom style sheet to change the colors. It is fairly easy to do.

This is another problem I have. Why should these colours make people stand out. It seems to suggest "we are more important look at our post's" I can imagine mythic members will have their post's quoted a LOT while regular members will be ignored something which I think is a problem with the new system.

Except experience shows that all it does is encourage people to be positive contributors, and also provides a perk for those that have been around and contributed.

I am REALLY tired of these types of complaints. "Elitism" you cry, yet I have NEVER seen what you say will happen here to any large degree. And those that skew in that direction get quickly slapped down by either the moderators or the community in general, and learn their place. I wasn't kidding before when I was thinking about bringing back post counts and join dates, just because that's how annoyed I am at this kind of baseless fear.

If you see someone acting like that, report them. Simple as that. They get banned, and then their title vanishes. Problem solved. Again, do you REALLY think it was a coincidence that the spam reporting tool appeared at the same time the titles popped up?

Is it just me or are the coloured bars gone?

I think it would be a welcomed rebirth if you chose to bring post counts and join dates back. I would really love to see these tiny little sprigs of joy sprinkled back over B.net. With the report button, I believe that there is no such thing as "too much of a problem" that the community can't handle it.

You see, The Community is like the scouts at The Great Wall of China. The scouts alerted those who needed to take action behind the wall to prevent an attack. The community (Scouts) use the report button to alert the moderators (people behind wall) to defend the B.net Forums (China).

If there was not a report button I don't think I'd be so ambitious to see these two amenities return, because people just might hover them over other's heads as trophies. Which I believe was the case for why they were taken away. Now if someone is being "bullied" on the forums, they report it and the moderators come in on horseback and cut some heads. :)

I'd like a bit of clarification on this. Certainly it isn't something so bad as to say that bans in private groups or promotions effect the trust rating. My concern being wanton abuse/manipulation of the trust rating. Of course, I'm sure these effects were seen, can you shed some light on this?

I like that they put the "last poster" thing back.

  • 02.15.2008 3:04 PM PDT

I like the changes. Adding the banner navs to the reply listings was a plus -- IMHO, they're much more pleasant to have hovering off to the side than the boxen of pinned and top forum topics. I also like that the "last poster" has been added back -- even though the cost was not displaying the time of the OP (presumably so that it would all still fit on one line), I think that it was a worthwhile exchange.

There's actually an intricate design of dark colors underneath those boxen on the main topic and reply listings, which adds a nice flair, as opposed to having just a simple, solid black or near-black.
