3+ we dont know if installation 04 is the last one. It might be the fourth of ten trillion
This got me thinking, and I'll probably need a little help from someone who has read the books. Does the Halo story only take place in our galaxy, i.e. are the Humans and Covenant from the same galaxy?
The second question I have is that are the Halo rings supposed to be only within our galaxy? I seem to remember there being some "the galaxy will be quite devoid of life" comment from 343GS, so if no one knows I will assume that's the case.
Assuming the answer to both these questions is "yes," then I would feel confident in saying there are only 4 Halo rings. Here's my logic:
Our galaxy is 100,000 light years across. Assuming each ring has a radius of 25,000 light years, that means 4 rings would ROUGHLY cover the galaxy. The only exceptions would be the areas not overlapping in the blast radius/sphere, and those not covered due to the spiral shape of the galaxy.
But I doubt anyone got out and plotted the reaches of the galaxy to write the story, so I'm assuming the author got lazy and said:
4 rings X 25,000 light years = 100,000 light years. Any extra rings, from a functional aspect, would be redundant.
