Good question. My guess would be that it depends on the number of people who are visiting bungie.net with the Firefox 3 beta -- if it's what a lot of people are using, then chances are that it would be tested for compatibility.
Additionally, if the fundamentals of the final version of FF3 are already at work in the beta, then making the website compatible with the beta could also help with making the website compatible with the final version of FF3 when it comes out.
It seems to be working fine on bungie.net now, but more liberties could definitely be taken if indeed the javascript support is better.
