I'm a serious dude, so what?

I have an old strategy guide that includes an interview with Jason Jones. If I recall, they answer the question about why the company is named Bungie. Now, I was reading the Bungie history page and it claims that the naming of the company is their darkest secret.

How can it be a secret if it's been published?

Oh, and should I dig up that guide and tell you guys what it says?

The Joyeuse IP Formula

There have been several explanations for this. One of which is that it's a punch line to a dirty joke. But I don't think that's even the right one.

Well Enough Alone...

~"The people who play Bungie games tend to sense that there's something behind the games that's attractive to them. Then they become fans of the games. And then they become rabid fans. And then they become employees of Bungie."(Life story) -Marty

I've heard that one too. I think that they just thought it sounded cool and that people would think it's a mesterious name with more meaning behind it that was chosen for some good reason, which, if it is the reason, has worked. lol

It comes from when one of the old school members of Bungie jumped off a skyscraper forgetting to tie on a Bungie cord.

Hence the name, to always remind the world to attach their bungie cords before jumping.

(Btw, i made that up)

This would be a lot more convincing if Bungie the gaming company was spelled liked Bungee the device that allows you to jump from high objects and bounce back more than less unharmed.
