just a thought. in the e3 2003 vid. when the mc reloads the Battle Rifle, and he slides back the thing, if that is the place where the empty shells eject, after being shot? wouldnt they hit him in the face while he is sniping? think about it, his head would be right there while he is looking through the scope. and what about marines who dont have shields and full-face helmets? i am not totaly sure, so correct me if i am wrong.

It's not, it does not do that, watch the video, the shells come out of the right side, the bolt is on the left.

As Oppiten stated, that's the bolt and it's used to chamber the first round in the event the chamber is empty. Successive rounds are loaded into the chamber via the power of the ejection system.
