I started playing though Halo 2's campaign again today, on Heroic. I'm playing the Outskirts right now, and I'm finding that I hate Jackal snipers almost more than Drones. Yet I'm having more fun than I might have playing some campaign in Halo 3, or even multiplayer in Halo 3. It's challenging but manageable and really tests my reflexes and trigger finger (or trigger fingers, in the case of dual wielding). Also, everyone who pays attention here has seen that Halo 2 online players still number in the thousands. So, I want your opinion, guys and girls: is Halo 2 still alive, as I think? Or has it faded away into anonymity?

For me, Halo 2 is dead, I haven't touched it since August 7, 2007 (yah, I kept track).

Halo: CE is still alive and well in my opinion. I think even Halo 3 is starting to decay under Mass Effect and COD 4 already.

But I guess games like this do that if you don't have LIVE : (

Well. It's strong here. You can't explore anything in Halo 3.

In fact, yesterday I bought a "preowned" copy of Halo 2 in the local GameStop, for 8€ (~$12).
It has been like 2-3 years since I played it online, according to my Halo 2 Gamer Tag, Mopey N.
Anyway: It felt different to play, especially with few players online, but there were a couple of good ones.
For example, I had my first Double Team game since ages and already met a very cool partner to win with.
I say win because we won with a great advance, even though he was away from the controller for at least the half of the game.

Halo 2 is not dead. And I think it will be still alive in two years.

I say for all of those who think halo 2 is not alive, think again. Like the guy who made this said, there are thousands of us still playing halo 2. Don't get me wrong halo 3 is a good game but since I've got the three red rings of death (which was about a month ago) I have been playing halo 2 everyday. At first the only reason I started playing was because of the rings, but now its because i remembered how much fun it is. Halo 3 made me forget that. So I say people, put halo 3 down for a little bit and just try playing halo 2 again, and if you like it no need to thank me. If you don't like it, then you can criticize me all you want and go back to playing halo 3 and forget all about halo 2. Trust me though once you play halo 2, you'll want to keep playing.

Amen to that. Halo 2 lasted so long as the most played live game because there was, and still is, so much stuff to do, from the real competitive br start games to the fun garbage like tower of power. . .

At any one give time you'll find (usually) over twice as many people in H3 than you will in COD4. Mass Effect is already off the top 10 I think. COD3 get's more people running through it every day but Halo 3 is still heavily hammered. It's not going anywhere soon.

How you can say CE is alive is beyond me. I'd venture to say that XBC (it's one safe haven) probably has less than 100 people come through it a day to play CE.

H2, on the other hand is just fine. Like the OP said, players still number in scores of thousands (a day) and it still has quite a few people playing it on XBC.

CE is the one I'm worried to death over.

Yea... that and it was the one oasis in a period of an MP drought. H3 had a lot of competition this time around. With that, I'm good with where it's at. Actually if more people got off it'd make online less laggy and more enjoyable for me.

Actualy it's not, Halo 3 has been for the last few months the biggest game on Live. Last week however CoD4 surpassed it with I believe an average of 20% more players online at any given time.

my true GT: aklanofwalruses. the funstick is a backup.

i think that all three halo games are still alive. i still play CE's campaign just because its so amazing, i play H2 because of the awesome maps, and i play H3 for the huge amount of stuff to do. oh and people who say that CoD4 is taking over halo, theyre wrong. CoD4 doesnt have a theater mode, a forge mode, co-op play. their maps are just remakes of campaign levels, and the ranking system is flawed. it is definantly an excellent game, but halo 3 has much more to offer. and i know that more ppl have been play call of duty, but i think theyll tire of it eventually.
