Subject: Wanted: Your feedback!

Okay... so I've taken a stab at doing a rough update on the FAQ.

I'd like to see what you guys think...

What information is it missing, what should be added, is the format to hard to read, does it make sense? Also... what order should the information be displayed in? What is most relevant to first signing up on Bungie.net? Feel free to post all suggestions and ideas, I will be updating it as often as I can with new information and the feedback you provide. So don't hesitate to help out!

I know off the top of my head I need a new "report picture" and maybe the astricts weren't the best idea. Also... was aiming for a format such as:

---main topic
*Sub topic
*Sub topic

Doesn't seem like it worked out so well.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Looks good to me so far. The formatting is quite easy to read.

I would put the FAQs generally in order of category (doesn't really matter what order those categories are in, I don't think), and try to move more frequently asked questions towards the top. I also think that a "table of contents" listing all of the questions right in the beginning of the post might be helpful.

You might consider unlocking the thread so that more questions can be asked or suggestions can be made. If you do that, just consider adding a couple of replies when you unlock it saying "Reserved for future necessity" or something similar so that, if the FAQ gets longer than 10,000 characters, you can add to it at the beginning of the thread instead of members having to search through the thread for answers.

Otherwise, I think it's awesome :-)

Kind of hard to tell what's a question and what's not. Perhaps quoting the question would help?

Also, the 7themes@bungie.com still wotks?

Well stosh *cough *cough never got back to me... so I guess I'll just sign his email up to be bombarded...

The quoting the questions seems like a good idea, but I'm worried the layout would feel to blocky. I was thinking of quoting sections that contain relevant information to one topic or category.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I think that a bit about which topics belong in which forums may be prudent, but you'd know about that better than me.

That could work. Currently, the italicized questions seem weird to me. This might help.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

All I have to add now is that ash55 ain't ash's current account, ash_55 is.

Add a spot that talks about posting file share items to the forums. People are always confused about that.

A hearty second to that.
There seems to be an explosion of posts that belong in the classifieds, and are just generally in the wrong place. I think that a more solid stance on that (even in the "spam" section of the FAQ) would help.

When pointing out typos, ALWAYS triple check for typos of your own.

(Hint: there's no "e" in "Typo")

Quote boxes will make the individual points easier to define. It wont be a wall of text, it will be a an organized wall of boxes

Maybe an index?

(Ex 5.3)
(5) First Number = Post number
(3) Second Number = Point or rule in the post.

1.0 General Rules
-1.1 Spamming
-1.2 inappropriate/Malicious Link
-1.3 Flamming

Hello and welcome to the Bungie.net forums! We here at Bungie.net know that these forums and subsequently the 7th Column can be quite the daunting place to immediately jump into. So please, take a few minutes to read through this FAQ and the Rules as we guide you through an overview of Bungie.net!

1.0 - General Forum Rules

1.1 - Spamming
What is spam and how do I deal with it?
Spam is generally defined as unnecessary or unwanted posts often times used to flood or disrupt a forum. Spam is a term designated by Moderators that refer to posts that are off-topic, irrelevant, inappropriate or does not belong on the forums.

If you encounter spam your first job is to use your trusty Report Spam button to alert the Moderators about the post. The second step you should take is to completely ignore the post, once you have reported the topic simply move on. Replying to a spam topic means you will get blacklisted so please reframe from doing so.

1.2 - inappropriate/Malicious Link
I've clicked a link that has lead to inappropriate content or malicious computer software, what should I do?
We do not take very kindly to users linking to adult content, shock sites, or websites that contain malicious software that can potentially harm user's computers. If you encounter links like these you should immediately report these to a Moderator so they may be quickly taken care of. Dire consequences await those who attempt this sort of posting behavior.

1.3 - Flamming
What is flaming, what should I do about it?
Flaming, is a form of online bullying where one user attempts to provoke another user with threats, insults or other defamatory posts. Flaming only seeks to upset users or to provoke them into flaming back. Users are urged to ignore comments like these and to report to a Moderator if they feel they are being harassed.

From the ashes

Hmmm, good it taught me things I didn't know. Okay though you explained the mods you may want to change this.
Posted by Yoozel:The moderators (more commonly Ninjas) on Bungie.net are volunteers from our community

I underlined volunteers because, even though you explained that you cannot ask to be a moderator. Certain members won't bother reading all that to find out " If you ask you shall not receive", they'll just skip it and make a thread asking to be a mod( admitted it hasn't happened in a while though) so you could put in stead of that, this instead " The moderators(more commonly known as Ninjas) on Bungie.net are picked by Bungie from our community." This is just a thought, so disregard if you want.

Not bad, but the "wall of text" might be a turn off for those who can't seem to read a simple rule. It looks pretty good and helps guide users to known issues. Overall, it is a good FAQ for those looking for info.

Agreed. The "wall of text" does need some help though, especially since it's orange (and burning my eyes :P).

However, if members can't even seem to read the rules, do you think they'd bother reading this FAQ? Maybe. Maybe not. I hope so though.

It looks good right now. I'd suggest using the [br] tag but that doesn't work anymore.
Maybe use

to create a seperator between the questions.

This is what you get.

Here is an example:

How do I use text formating?
For more detailed information text mark-ups please follow this link.

How do I change my avatar?
To change you avatar, go to your profile page, click the edit profile button located under your personal banner. The first page that will load is the avatar page, sift through until you find a suitable avatar, select it and remember to save your settings!

Honestly I absolutely love it. I couldn't care less about the format becasue the information that it contains is so important. The only problem is getting people to read it, but that is out of our hands. I have a feeling I will be giving out that link alot...

Edit-Also it may be useful if you listed the purpose of every forum. It seems alot of people get confused about where ro post certain topics.
