I got this indea from the Gamefaqs forums. They have a posting restriction system that limits the amount of activity new users can't flood the website with spam.

Those that are familiar know this. But new users are allowed to create only 1 single topic, and create only about 10 posts a day. Eventualy they are allowed to post more topics and have a greater post count until after a 90 day provisional period ends. In which they must remain active during those 90 days to have their restrictions lifted. Another feature is bans. Warned users for violating the rules are given posting restrictions for a set time.

Now im not saying copy their system, the only way to remove restrictions and level up in there strange rank system is to be active daily earning you a "karma". But a similar system could greatly reduce spam on these forums. New users won't spam because they can't. Others that don't seem to learn by their blacklisting could have a posting restriction until seen fit. Or instead of a 3 day blacklist, put a posting limit for that person if their infringment is minor.

This is only an idea, but i would like it to be heard. Plz post your comments

That doesnt seem like a good idea to me. The mods have done a good job of eliminating the spam. It seems like an un needed power that could potentialy be abused.

Its not that toe mods arent doing a good job, its that more people repeat it. Sure a mod could lurk on a single forum locking and banning every bit of spam they see. But they will just keep on coming. An insentive not to spam such as heroic member or just to not be blacklisted isn't always enough. Restricting spammers access to the website not only teaches lesson, it lessons spam (or seems so on the Gamfaqs forums)

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Bungie.net has two requirements that I can think of right now.

First, there's a time limit for how soon two posts can be made sequentially. It's like sixty seconds, or something.

Additionally, there's also a daily thread limit, capping the number of threads a user can create in a twenty-four hour period.

I thought that new members couldn't post topics for 24 hours?

True but it doesnt stop them from going on a rampage later.

I think the OP´s idea is good but with a hidden karma system. As I see it theres no cons other than the extra work it would take for this to become a reality. I bet that the people who are using every thread in the Flood as a chat disagrees.
