I'm pretty sure I'm part of this mess. I joined BNet back in April of '04 (right after the New Hawtness), but all I did was post in the Flood. And that's all I've pretty much been doing here...

--

You know what, I was going to write a big, long-winded post here. But really, I can just summarize it:

Why am I here? Why did I come here? Why am I still here? This place sucks.

  • 02.19.2008 8:13 PM PDT

That's a tad..very mean.

So basically you are telling us we all suck and shouldn't post?

The only Twitter I follow. Except yours ;)
The Frozen Minority; Bungie's real underground. The oldest members, the deepest controversy, walking infamy.

Impurity, I really object to the flaming and the singling people out in your post, that is all I have to say about that. I really think you should change it... though I realise your frustration at what this place has become.

Now, about the main topic: You know we don't tend to agree on much stuff, but you hit the nail on the head, in my opinion.
The forums are overloaded. The Septagon is full of useless suggestions and attention whores and the only place I feel a part of Bungie anymore is, ironically, on an offsite, private forum. Full of the members I met during my early days on here.

Though this is my ideal future on this place: The next project is announced. It is an RPG or something non-Halo related. The screaming idiots from the forums decide "BUNG@Y HAS BETRAYED ME!" and leave.

The forums shrink to a trickle. The only people left are Bungie fans, not strictly Halo fans. The community restarts as it was years ago.

No, you're being proof.

EDIT: I surely hope that you know that was in jest >_> But impu didn't imply that you "shouldn't post". Where'd you get that from?

I'm confused. I'll read through it again...

There was a man from Allentown who fed his son to death.
He calmly watched him gorge himself until his final breath.
And there he stood, surprised and shocked above his tiny frame.
He said: "I bear no blame for this. I only share his name!"

Wow. That was honestly depressing. Hmm... I need to think.

And what happens here? In the Septagon? Nothing. You all think you're doing something but you aren't. Every major thread that lasts more than a day here is in some way, shape, or form a desperate attempt to pat each other on the back. Some way to justify your own inability to build something better out of the fans who want to bond.
I honestly couldn't have said it better.

You say tomato; I say potato.

Personality is lost to the happy, cheery member title. People pretend they are really helping the community by making lengthy posts about squat. The member titles are all this community has left to show some sort of character. Ever since our sigs were hidden, this site lost all of its personality. They took the excitement out of the members. Truthfully, it kept the bad reputation alive.

In all honesty, this place is redundant and useless.

I couldn't agree anymore. As Pezz has previously stated:

One thing though, that I must disagree with you on impy. Is that of a couple of the names. A couple of those members I believe truly are here to help the community. Alas however, that is what the internet is, lies and deception. Everyone has motives, but I just don't think a few of them are here to be attention whores.

I intentionally left out names. I also intentionally switched between a couple and a few.

Late Edit: Once again, someone has the words that I cannot think of. Thanks Thing1.

One can only dream.

I honestly couldn't care less about sigs. I always choose to disable them anyway. Though it was nice just hovering my mouse over their avatar - but it's retarded having to click that dam arrow. Back when I was new-ish to BNet, I usually enjoyed reading people sigs, and just had a great time the people I knew really well here.

I'm seriously just finding myself posting in the group forums now. I don't post that much in the main forums anymore - there's nothing there for me. As for our "individuality"? Pffft. I find it a tad silly to dry and be unique, in an environment that's oh-so anonymous. I should be a Mythic right now, but I really couldn't care less. Just don't take away our avatars and I'll be happy.

And for those of you that think that I'm retarded for going on about how great this place used to be: Suck it. This place is a cesspool now, and you know it.

I wish everyone here would just forget me. Why am I still here? Why can't I leave...?

Great post Impurity. Although I too don't see any bright side to this debacle the community has created, I want to say that I do hope something becomes of this thread. I have lost all enjoyment when posting. I feel like I am going through the motions without getting any gain.

I want to say more, but nothing comes to mind.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

I roamed the forums for a year before joining before Halo 2 came out. I'm sorry that I have no idea what the groups were like back in the day. I wish I could've been here for that, but I wasn't.

I joined this site because I liked Halo. I posted for a while, enjoying Halo discussions. Sure, the forums are a mess, but there are good topics in them sometimes.

I will stay here, even when Bungie doens't make anymore Halo games. I like this community. I feel like I'm a part of it.

I do not care whether I am known or not. Hell, I've been here fore 3+ years and people have only recognized me within the last 6 months. I do not care what my member title is (which I don't think I should be Mythic. I shouldn't even be in the same class as Reiginko, Ghandi, or any of the other mods or Bungie employees). I try my best to be a kind member. I try to help people because I think I'm just a helpful person. You might see it as something else, and that's fine, it's your opinion.

Sure, some ideas around here are rather stupid, but that doesn't change the fact that at least people are trying. Sure, some may be trying to gain something, but I do believe others try just for the sake of trying.

The members you listed may indeed be exactly what you think they are. I'm sure there are also others in your mind who should be on that list. That's fine. However, I try to see the bright side of things. Perhaps they actually just want to help. Perhaps not. No one knows their true intentions except them.

I'm not exactly sure what I was trying to say here...I guess I just wanted to give you my input.

That's often the case with me. Normally, I have a lot to say here.. but... I don't even know anymore.

I still love Impy.

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

This has been the most entertaining piece of text I've read tonight.

I wonder if this would actually happen if Bungie's next project is something totally different than the Halo FPS style. You Australians do live in the future, so I'm assuming you have a good idea of what's going to happen before it happens :P

Why do these kinds of "miss the old days" threads pop up every so often now? You people have to accept that things change, get over it, sheesh.

Ok, I can see what you mean. After reading through the main post again I realized that I in fact do post more in groups then on the main forums. But when I first came to B.net it was the opposite.

But why should we dream about the past and how great it was when it's over. Gone, forever. Why not try to make the best of what we got now?

The internet has changed since the first years Bungie.net was started. Nothing you can do about it, most people on the internet are stupid. To add to that, most people come here for Halo 3 reasons. Not to help the community.

I'll partially agree with that. However, I wouldn't say that impurity is a troll because I don't think he does things to start flame wars, he does them to make people think. How heated the thinking may be is inconsequential.

Also, if anyone but impurity, or an older member like him(I can't think of any), how many people would even care to read what he had to say? If someone, like, say, Ha10fan117 said this, how many more people would flame him?

What impurity said is right. Though I can't agree with how you(impurity) singled out members to make a point, I can see how it is necessary to make a valid argument. However, I don't like how you tried to interpret what they were thinking. Perhaps many of them actually do care about the community, and right now, that is the only way the know how to help.

I do agree about how The Septagon, or "Community Forum" has changed. It is now more of a Roman Senate. Where we, the self appointed representatives of various forums, discuss the problems the plague their constituents who did not vote.

Perhaps we are just resisting change, and no one wants to admit that the most liberal outlet of media in the world contains its most conservative people.
