Slaying noobs since 2007.

DusK is right Ryan, and just because me made a new account to link to his gamertag doesnt mean he hasn't been here for a few years. And yes, every port of Halo has been half-ass. Why? Because it's a mediocre game meant for a console.

2. LIVE was tested, and will run on XP. It just doesn't work for Shadowrun and H2V because they are Vista only games.
Linkzors or it didn't happen.

And no, I don't have GoW for the PC.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

I can't link because it was from a private test group on MS Connect.

EDIT: if you go to the store and look at a GoW box, it will say "Windows XP/Vista".

You can't change that.

However GB did do a lot of work in getting the game to go online without killing the fundamental gameplay. That takes a huge amount of work right there. And apparently it worked out quite well until microsoft decided they needed to make it work on dial up connections as well. Ah MS, always coming to the rescue.

What are you all talking about? Halo PC was perfect. I don't play Halo PC's multiplayer, but I play Halo Custom Edition's multiplayer, as well as campaign on there. I heard Halo CE's fixed something about internet play that PC didn't do right or something, as well as better shaders (or better something.) Why do you think they half-assed Halo PC? Besides the ending credits, online multiplayer, and map/armor/etc. selection screens, how's Halo PC different or worse than Halo Xbox? There might be something I'm forgetting about it lol :P

I kinda tuned out after reading your second sentence, at first I thought this guy is making a huge 'LOL'. But then I read your last sentence, and realized, you forgot just about all of the game.

Well, to be sure not EVERY veteran here agrees with me. Having read the open letters from gearbox though, it is my humble opinion that they did not kill our game, as explained by t3h man No Refunds below.

And they did more than force feed 56k support. There are hundreds of examples of Halo not only being ported, but having stuff from the ORIGINAL game cut out. Shaders? Optimization? LAN connection optimizations? Microsoft literally TOOK AWAY things that made the xbox version superior. And in return we got Danger Canyon.

Every port of Halo has been Half-ass because of MAcrosoft. First, you constrict a VERY good developer like GB into making a mediocre product. Then you get a couple lackey programmers that were set up for the axe long before being assigned to H2V and use them as scapegoats. I guess you could take it as an opinion thing, but I see all the signs pointing to one particular gargantuan software conglomerate with a history of screwing PC gamers over
- by the name of Microsoft.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Actually, GB Did not half ass Halo PC. They did more work and had more heart it in than bungie and MS combined. I don't have the link and I"m tired of explaining it to people, but anyone who's been on this forum for more than six months or so know this.

I've been here since '04.

I remember everything about the game. I've played the Xbox and PC versions over and over, and there isn't anything different about them that I can see. Sure, PC's missing Co-op and Xbox's missing online play, but I'm sure you don't care about that, because you said it's a mediocre game anyway, so if you think that, why are you even talking about Halo 1? Or were you just talking about the port to PC?
Halo PC is not perfect. What I meant by that is that it's perfectly the same as the Xbox version, by what I can see. The Xbox one just feels more solid though. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the Xbox one feels better.

Though it may sound like it, I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I just don't know what's different about Halo PC. I am an ignorant dummy who bought Halo 1 PC before buying Halo 1 Xbox. Can you tell me what's wrong and different about it? Again, I'm not trying to be mean or sarcastic, I really want to know.

Are they games built for XP? If so, then they should work.

Sounds to me like the problems are with the user or the hardware and not the software/OS.

I have no problems with games like RvS, Halo PC, CoD1, CoD2, and more.

Do you get an error message when attempting to start-up Halo PC? If so, can you post or PM me what exactly the error message is?

If you don't get an error message, and it simply doesn't load or work at all, then have you updated Halo to it's latest version? Here's a link to the latest update.

If after updating the game and it still doesn't work, have you tried re-installing it ? If not, try that.
If that doesn't work, try installing it to a custom directory. I think I had to do that myself. I have 64x Vista Ultimate. What version do you have?
I never heard of Halo PC not working on Vista, so I'm sorry, I'm not much help :) I'll Google about it though.

Oh, you can also try disabling UAC (User Account Control) by going to Start, Control Panel, then User Accounts. Now, at the bottom, it should say Turn User Account Control on or off. If it's on, turn it off. If it's off, turn it on. Now try re-installing it. If it still doesn't work, then, well, I'm still googling :)

Also, running it in Compatability Mode may work. To do this, right-click on the shortcut you use to start Halo, click on Properties, then click the Compatability tab. Then, click on the checkbox next to 'Run this program in compatability mode for:,' then select 'Windows XP (Service Pack 2) This may or may not work, I'm basically guessing and writing down anything I can think of.

Are you sure you have all the latest drivers for your video and/or sound card? That may be the problem.

This page may help. I only glanced the first page, but it may provide your answer. The one person on there says to call Microsoft Tech Support. They probably won't be much help, but if every single other thing fails, then calling them wouldn't hurt.

I can't look for anything else right now, because I got my gallbladder out today, and I'm very tired. Still, I hope I helped! :D

Let me check on system requirements lab.com...

Also, I posted Gearbox Software to the list of Suggested Development Teams.

BEFORE ANYONE FLAMES LET ME ASK YOU THIS:

Which had a better HEK? Was it Halo 2 Vista? Or was it Halo: CE?

EDIT: Ok, AJ6627, you win.

It lets you know if you have all the right hardware specs before you go out and buy a game.

Strangely enough it says my piece of crap laptop can handle Unreal Tournament 2004...

It;s not that it can handle it, but it will just run . There is another site that actually meaures performance based on estimated 3DMark scores, but I can't remember what it's called.

I was able to get UT2k4 to run nicely on a PC with a Pentium 4 3GHz processor, 16MB ATi video card, and 128MB of RAM. Why? Because Epic Games pwns at graphics coding, and every release of the Unreal Engine is proof of that.

CE's was more capable, but H2's was easier for nubs to understand.

And I agree - when it comes to optimization, you have Epic and Valve at the forefront.
