It was on amazon.com a few weeks ago.

Never took classes, never got books, just forums and tom's hardware - that's all you need to do.

also i duno if u know that amd 64s hav ' coola and quite technolgy built in, but i hav yet to c the performance increase.

Cool and Quiet is not meant to boost performance. Quite the opposite, it throttles DOWN the CPU speed when the CPU load is not very high.

i have a Nvidia GeForce2 MX200 and i was wondering if it is a good card and would run halo well
That card will be able to run Halo, but not very well at all. Be prepared to turn off ALL the eye-candy, and run at nothing more than 800x600. I would stongly suggest something else.

Ok it took me two days to start from the beginning and read through it all and then to register and now you are going to tell me that my FX5200 128 Meg video card that I bought specifically to play halo (which i finally got for christmas) doesn't work because its old. I haven't been able to play it very much because anytime something starts to happen, like shooting, my system bogs way the hell down and then i am in slow motion and then dead (you can't run very fast in slow motion)!!!!! So that about sums it up.
System
ECS motherboard (L7)
on board sound
1 gig ddr ram
and the afore mentioned FX5200

Oh DeepFryed, a book that I have been reading recently is "Upgrading and repairing PCs" by Scott Mueller. I have learned quite a few things about the history and inner workings of the mighty pc.
Remember always turn off your power supply when changing cards, memory and such. The motherboard is powered if the power supply is on. The on switch in the front hooks to the motherboard not the power supply.
I don't know if I can get another video card as I am on a real tight budget.
Any suggestions????

ah ok, well i also meant by 'performance' as in the benchmarking performnace when i overcolock, its practicall the same as a p4-3.4 Ghz but does out do a p4 3.0 GHZ.
also can i just say amd64 3200 does not run at 3200mhz like the name suggests but 2.5ghz, but still it is faster then the equivalent of the intels.

Socket 939 3200's runs stock at 2GHz.

Yep, Intel has brainwshed everyone into thinking clock speed is everything. They work on pushing clock speeds while AMD tries to pack all the tech they can into a small little package. IMO noth are equally effective.

Optical drives are cd drives, they use a laser to read data off of a removable disk. Optical hard drives...maybe just regular ones or confusion about cd drives?

And kismaass, socket 939 3200's run at 2GHz, while socket 754 ones run at 2.2GHz. They lowered the clock on the s939 for the tradeoff of getting dual channel and integrated mem. controller, hyper transport, etc.

yes i got plenty heres a list:
gigabyte ga-ka5ns naah too complicated. just go on pricewatch.com its a great place.
The mb u get must be socket a , socket 754 or socket 939 for amd. Get soemthing like the nforce 2 or 3 chipset.
DON"t get the nforce 4 its pci express.
for the CPU, get an athlon xp if that motherboards socket a.
if ur motherboards socket 754 then get athlon 64 2800 or 3000.
Lastly, be sure the slots agp. it'll say that in the motherboards section waht slot.
it really depends how much a gamer u are. tell me how much power u need navu.
Oh sexy legs, i had to return my new pc and got my old one back(athlon xp, 256 RAM and geforce 5500 Boo!!!! lastly a nforce 2 motherboard.

New to this board. My son(12) got me(46) hooked on Halo(He puts me thru boot camp over our network, still kicks my butt!).
Originally had a Radeon 8500DV AIW. In single play things went ok until the action got real heavy then things started freezing like a bad flashback sequence.
Purchased and installed the Radeon 9600 XT 128Mb AGP(come on family of four, a budget).
WOW what a difference. Smooth fast action and finally able to make it off the Pillar of Autumn(be merciful I'm a rookie!). 1024x768, high color, no overclocking, default game settings, I'm happy as a pig in poop!
Any way, just wanted to throw in my glowing endorcement of the 9600XT, on sale at Best Buy, $40 off(no I do not work for Best Buy or ATI).

2.4Ghz PIV 512Mb RAM

didnt know that, how confusing.
well neway about optical drives, that includes cd, dvd and now, they bring in out 'blue ray media'
thats is suposed to be kick ass.
i mean u get get up 2 50gb on one side , hence 100gb on a double side, not to mention its at its first go.

Medic - yeah, 9600XT can handle those big fight scenes without unbearable lag. It's great for the price.

Whoah, 100GB on optical storage? Crazy man, that would be more than my hard drive! It would be a cheap way to back up hard drives and such.

Does it say Safe Mode in the corners? If not, then all I can think of is that your resolution is set to 640x480, and you need to raise it. To do this, right click on your desktop and click Properties. Then click Settings and choose your desired resolution. You can also choose colours at this screen.

If it does say Safe Mode in the corners, then, well, I have no idea.
