Forgive me for not reading ALL 8 Pages... but I did read the beginning middle and end... as most people do when doing a book report in school.

Anyway... I've been having issues with my game and I thought it was my video card... (nVIDIA Geeforce fx 5200) So i got tired of it finally and I went and got the ATI 9800 Pro and it was exactly the same. I stopped as many progs as possible running in the background. with the exception of TeamSpeak. So... do you think it's a still a video issue or is it something else... here are the specs on my PC

AMD Athlon XP 2700 (1300MHz), 1Gig of RAM, 250Gig HD, WIN XP Media Center 2005 with SP2.... and like I said nVidia fx 5200 256mb.

Anyway, let me know if there is anything I can do with out having to buy an entire new pc, I would if I had the $$$

Agog - what are you running your settings on halo at?

Dude before him - mm...that pc is way over the top. You won't need that type of power for a LONG time. Besides, ATi cards aren't SLI-able.

Yeah, 3Dlabs Realizm cards are known for their superior over the top performance (and price).

They do lead the graphics realm in software and hardware, though. The Realizm cards actually make a texture 3D...like, instead of just applying it to the surface, it's applied to the entire 3D model, so if you were to cut say, a rock in half during a game, you'd see the texture, and not just white. It's not practical now, but it may be in the future.

It's mainly for developers and CAD designers working with huge...HUGE models in 3DS Max and other programs. I'm sure at least someone on the Bungie team, especially the level compilers or cinematics guys, had a similar card. They need lots of memory and blazing fast VPUs.

Agreed, though, 640MB graphics card with a max resolution most monitors can't support...it costs more than an awesome computer!

I thought 9250 was PCI.

* Pr: ĭnʹtərnĕts: "I hear there's rumors on the uh (pause), Internets...

i think it CAN be PCI, like a Radeon 7200 can be AGP 4x

ok, m8, if u still cant get into halo, mayb u DO have other programs running in the background. try this m8, worked when my windows installer crashed to desktop:

ok.....
Step1. Close applications in the background.

a. To prevent extra applications and services from loading during startup please use the steps below:
-Click Start button then Run
-In the box type MSCONFIG and click OK.
-This will bring up the System Configuration Utility.
-Click the Startup tab. This displays a list of all non-vital applications and processes that are loaded during startup.
-Click the Disable All button to uncheck these items.
-Click OK. When you are prompted to restart, click yes
-Upon reboot, these applications will not start.
If it works, then one of these programs may be conflicting.

b. To undo the above changes:
-Click Start then Run
-In the box type MSCONFIG and click OK.
-This will bring up the System Configuration Utility.
-On the General tab, click the dot next to Normal Startup
-Click OK. When you are prompted to restart, click yes
-This will restart your computer with all the background applications re-enabled.

If problem persist go to next step.

Step2. Make sure you're running the up-to-date version of the game.

Please check for the game updates by clicking on Start button ->All Programs
->Company or game name->Update the game.

ok m8, thats all i know, i hope it works m8, put in a post here if so. thanks.

VD - nope, that's the most powerful commercial card you can buy. 3D Labs always leads the industry.

That card could handle anything. Not that the 9800 XT couldn't but wow. 640 MB???

Yes, a bit excessive for the gamer.

But, for a person working cinematics on Halo 2 or a similar high-poly 3D environment, it's perfect. My computer lags even with regular level models in 3DS Max. I can't think about making a cinematic with bump-mapping and shadows :o

It's good.

CPU - I'd go with a Sempron or Athlon 64. A low end Athlon 64 or a high end Sempron will beat the XP. Sempron are actually very good, many comanies put them on their midrange rigs.

Mobo - nForce 3 is a bit more desireable. However, if you aren't an uber hardcore gamer you won't be disappointed.

Vid - Yep, although I would get maybe the 256MB version. It's an awesome card either way.

Sound - Darn nice card. I would suggest less, unless sound is really valuable to you. I do fine with an audigy ls with my surround sound - that card is about $20 now.

HD - Looks good, definately want that 8MB cache, anything less gets a significant performance drop.

Memory - Heck, please just get the 1GB. It costs maybe $10 more. You're getting XMS on a budget? Hmm, I went with Mushkin Value select DDR400 for $130, the 512MB was $120. Best to get 1GB of great RAM than 512MB of awesome RAM. The value select stuff is not a bargain. It's actually about as good as the XMS-comparable RAM. The latency is .5-0 difference.

thanks man i didnt know how much the xms memory costs because i cant find it on any website. where can i find your memory at? as for the vid i dont think that i can afford 256 mb the masy i can spend is about 1200 bucks. im relatively knew to the world of computer hardware all that stuff that i just mentioned came from a website www.basichardware.com i havent bought the parts yet cause im still trying to figure out whats i can get for my 1200 bucks while still having a decent gaming machine that plays well without jumpy gameplay or crappy looking character models in other words as close to recommended standards with current to new pc games and under 1200 bucks

They're not as good as the normal card version, but you can record video and such. Better capabilities.

Dark - yeah, that card has a very good video recording interface. You'll need a program to encode the video on the fly, though, unless ATi says it has the software with it. There are various software programs, I think movie maker can do it, not sure tho.

Deep - Gloves? Naw, when you open the case, touch the case (the actual metal part inside), and you should be fine. Just avoid touching the CPU, RAM, etc., and you'll be fine. I open my case and start touching stuff all the time :o
