And currently the new nVidia crds support 3.0, as opposd to 2.0 on ATi, but that's really not much of a problem.

u don't have to take college course on computers. u just need to look at sites and such and u'll learn more. i bet thats what sexy legs davis did.

Now, the 6800 and x850 are still kinda close. the x850 only beats nvidias by a few fps witch doesn't matter ttoo much. both of them cards are powerful but nice deals .but i'm only getting a 6600 gt agp cause i'm not a serious gamer.

Yeah, the 6600GT AGP is a good deal. I got mine on zipzoomfly.com for $209. There is a $25 rebate on it, too.

Ioniz - I have never heard of a bad card from eVGA. They seem to be a very good company.

Basically, yesterday and such was, well, what I've seen even worse in other forums...ie ATi vs. nVidia...it's a bad scene, let's not go there again, truce, eh?

I have also officially decided that ATi is either overpriced, or nVidia sells their cards for one helluva deal. I've known this for a while, but I've been stubborn. If you have no budget, SLI is good. If you have a medium budget, ATi is good, on a tight budget, nVidia is good.

Deep Fryed, the X850XT...that thing's fan is basically a leaf blower on steroids. On stock settings, it's barely enough to cool the thing. In LAN's, if I plan to play for 2+ hours, I use ATi Tray Tools to crank up the fan. At 100% it is louder than a 12cm case fan. The X800XT, I'm not sure how it performs temp wise, but I don't think sound is an issue. If sound isn't an issue, then go ahead and get the X850**, I have found that on most sites it's actually cheaper than many X800 series cards.

In hindsight, the X850XT is somewhat of an experimental card, as it's the only one on the consumer market that actually has an exhaust port...the damn thing actually heats my room 1C degree every hour...

Alright sexy legs, stop trying to torture ur card. its fast enough already. do you use radlinker or something? anyways, ATI offers better deals, but nvidia has huge power. lets just leave it like that. Oh by the way sexy, try using a liquid cooler, it'll help ALOT. I used to have one. too bad one of my friends tripped over it and smashed it. sniff sniff.

If ur room gets hotter every second, its time to lower the x850's speed. seriously, ur taking it too far. Maybe if u use UR HOME'S AC vent to cool ur system down. that might help. OH ONE MORE THING, WHAT FORUM DID U SEE THAT ARGUEMENT ON ATI VS. NVIDIA?

Dude, I have run it underclocked to produce less heat and it still heats my room. I dunno, maybe it's my case fan or something. But even at stock my pc produces a lot of heat.

Luckily, my parents are finally looking into AC...

Hey everyone,

does anyone have any opinions on the GeForce FX 5500 Video Card ( http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-deta ils.asp?EdpNo=1071564&Sku=P56-5501&SRCCODE=CNETFEEDCI &CMP=OTC-CNETFEED ), I'm buying it off of a friend for $60.00 and he told me he got it for 130$ in december.
He's used it a couple times but stopped using it because " he couldn't see the sniper shot trails in halo pc." Right now, im using my crap integrated motherboard graphics so anything's good for me. Do you guys think it's worth the money and you think the deal with the sniper trails could be fixed by turning the settings down ?

Thanks.

Nope, sniper trails should actually be visible if he has particles enabled.

Anyway, yes, it would be much better than your integrated graphics, and at $60, it's even more of a steal. Don't expect crisp resolutions and awesome graphics, but expect to get most details enabled at low res, at about 40fps or better. I think you'll be happier with it than without it.

hmm.. wat sites does the x850cos less that the x800, ill go get it then :D
so long as they del, to the UK. also i have an amzingly noisy pc (due to the caseing fans) so i overkill on all my stuff, except for the vid.crad but thats only bcos i hav a 9550se so no fans just a v=crapy heatsink.
hopefully im gona get a good coooler and start overclocking that too.

o and one more thing, on a res or 1200x 750 (approx) i get a 39 fps on css in game stress test, y is that? so im gona HAVE to o/c to get some diff. i dont want to lower the performance or buy a nu one as im cheap and stubborn, so o/c is myt only option. also i get an error 'zero display device' when i tr installing the other cat. drivers such as the nu xp ones and thwe ones from powercolor.
also as my card is sooo god damn small i hav to search around for a gd cooler that fits, ive had no luck yet.

guess what ya'll. since i cant play video games(the reason my PC and xbox got taken) ive figured out a way to play DF: black hawk down and BF1942. i looked at the game spec. so ill just get the recommended chipsets for them i.e geforce4/3/2, radeon 7500/8500 it is clever isnt it? but those are the only two ill play. 64Mb is what i want. they are pretty cheap on zip. so um...this sound good?
ps i know that the cards are OLD but this is just for a quick fix. i shoulda got my stuff back because yesterday was my birthday but i got nothing.

zipzoomfly.com has the cheaper than the X800, I believe.

True, the FX5500 is poor, but he said he wants something a bit better than integrated. I doubt he has $200 to spend. Even if he did, I don't know if he even has AGP.

but yeah, the PCI version is a bit crappier than the normal one, which is still low. But, set to low res, you can even get a 9200 to get 40-50fps, so you can do it on a 5500.

well i don't wanna trash this thread, but what is a good motherboard company i should use?

If he doesn't have agp (witch i highly doubt cause many peopel have nowadays), then he should just get the fx 5500. i agree with that sexy. however, if he wants toplay halo, he'll have to plan on playingit at 640x460 resolution with most settings off. besides motherboards that have integraded video can be bad and unstable.
