its amazing how many people bought xboxes for halo 2 and i am one of those people

And what was your point?

As far as motherboards, Abit, DFI, MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte make some good boards - but it all depends upon the model. Asus made awesome nForce 4 mobos, but their nForce 4 SLI is well, not as good as the competition.

If your monitor doesn't support VSYNC, then just set it to no vsync. Besides, VSYNC is actually demanding on your system.

Heyyo,

SLD, dude, I now got a Sapphire 9800 PRO. Got it for a heckova deal for $70 CDN! w00t! :)

Anywho, it also has an exhaust port. The heatsink/fan combo is the same as any x800 card, so mine runs nice n' cool. The exhaust port even has a fan adjuster switch between low and high, so customizing for lan parties ain't an issue for me. ;)

The reason I got the card for such a deal was some fool broke the vga port. for now I'm just gonna use a dvi to vga adapter, but after the lan party I'm gonna attempt to solder onna new vga port from an old ATI RageII pro.. now that's a beefy classic ati card eh? lmao..

so w00t! sapphire's 9800 pro is really good, I'd go as far as to say better than even the stock ati once since it's cheaper and has the big n' powerful heatsink/fan combo. A good buy indeed. With a deal like mine or not.

1 gb of RAM
80 gb hardrive

Heyyo,

I got the card off a bud, he was gonna fix it n' sell it with a markup price above $150 cdn I bet, so luckly I swooped in n' grabbed it. :)

Out of 100 eh? I'd probably say 80+. :)

Vidcard's great (better than mine), 1gb of ram's plenty for what you need for today's games , 80gb hd's good enough to hold lots of stuff, I have an nforce2 based mobo too, they're stll kickass, the cpu, the athlonxp 2100+ is a nice cpu, but it does hold back the comp a bit. That's more important for stuff like more computer players, so if you just wanna play multiplayer, don't worry aboot it, the vidcard does most of the rendering work anywho. ;)

it was a very very good deal for that 9800 pro. however, the 6600 gt is better though................. it has ultrashadow 2. the 9800 pro only has doesn't even have ultrashadow. thats why ati cards aren't good with doom 3. but i must say u have a nice pc. its only my video card that beats ur heck out.

I have a question. I found out that I have a PCI bus slot for my graphics card. So does that mean that I HAVE to get a pci graphics card? Because from reading these posts, ive heard that pci is crappy. Thanks.

PS: I heard talk about PCI express or something. Would that work with my slot? And how expensive are they.

1. Yes, PCI=crappy. However, a FX5500 isnt THAT bad, but you won't play anything near to good graphics, especially in the next year.

2. PCI-express is very new, and uses a different slot, faster bus speed, etc. No it won't work. It wouldn't even fit.

Oh yeah, is there any way to replace the PCI slot for something else, such as APG? I hope there is and that its not too expensive. Are the PCI graphics REALLY BAD? Or just worse than others?

1. thats a very nice deal sonic
2. the pci slot isn't that bad. u just have to play with slower graphics. unless ur willing to upgrade with a lot of money, then just play with the crappy pci geforce 5500. no choice.
also, no u may not put a new slot on ur motherboard. u need to buy a new motherboard for agp.

OK. Well then is an ATI Radeon 9250 256MB a good card for Halo PC considering its a PCI card? I was wondering because the only games that ill really be playing will probably be Halo PC and Counter Strike: Source. Please tell me if its an OK card. Oh, heres a link to the page for the info http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6832779&typ e=product&productCategoryId=cat01151&id=1093468042109 . Thanks

On low res with settings maxed or near max, darthbob got about 40fps average with his 9200 or 9250, whatever he has. It's not bad at all, just mediocre. big scenes and lots of enemies wil lag you like hell, but then again, it is a PCI card...

If you don't want to get a whole new mobo/cpu, then yes get the 9250.

hey people how come my evga card says it needs 350 power, but i have 300 watt power and it works fine.

2. Sexy, i think he should upgrade. Well, the 9250 ain't too bad, but plan on laying at something lik 800 resolution woth most settings off, or 640 res with all settings enabled.

Sweet. I dont need something that is all super-powerful or anything, just something that can be played with the settings in low and not lag too much. Thanks so much for the advice guys. Ive been asking a lot of questions on this forum, and im glad that i did, because all of my questions were answered elaborately. At least there is one forum that is mature on bungie.net.
EDIT: what does the resolution do anyways? And how much does a new motherboard cost? **goes under bed and holds his wallet tight to his heart**

esolution is basiclly how many pixels are in an image. if the resol is higher more deatialed it'll be. (note: only good video cards can play at high resols) oh by the way, is the ecs nforce 4 motherboard good. its only 80.00

Socket 939 motherboard + AMD Athlon 64 3000+ is under $300. that'll give you the opportunity to get PCI-express and such. I am skeptical of mobos under $100, they are okay for people who don't care, but I will warn you...don't get the Chaintech one. It's the only mobo that doesn't have a fan on it's chipset, and the problems start there...ugh

Yeah I had that card, for what I paid ($130) it was HORRIBLE. It wouldn't allow me to go invisible and it was kind of laggy, I ran it with everything on at 1024x768 with about 25-40 fps, which was solid but it lacked the ability to make me invisible. This also worked the other way so that I could see people who were supposed to be invisible but at the same time, being invisible's a luxury type of thing.

Why wouldnt they put a fan on it? That sounds pretty dumb of them to do that lol. Well, my mom just now cheated me out of 50 bucks that i babysitted for. That -blam!-! Well, because of that, I might just have to go with the PCI card. Anyways, ill also be getting XBOX 2 when it comes out, so after that ill probably be playing that 90% of my gaming time. So ill probably get the PCI card so it can hold me off until then. Plus, in about 2 years, ill be getting my own computer! w00t! But i honestly am still confused about what i should do. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I think that I might actually have a AGP slot instead of a PCI slot. I could of sworn that earlier while i was looking through my computer that i saw something about PCI bus, but i downloaded EVEREST HOME EDITION and when I go to motherboard, and then to chipset, it says this exactly.

AGP Controller

AGP Version: 2.00

AGP Status: Enabled

AGP Device: nVIDIA GeForce MX/MX400

AGP Aperature size: 128mb

Supported AGP speeds: 1x, 2x, 4x

Current AGP Speed: 4x

Does this mean that I have an AGP slot?

EDIT: I just found something else. When I click "Display" on Everest, one of the things on the list under it says PCI/APG Video. Does that explain why i saw PCI somewhere elso on my computer. But is it possible to have both?
