the geforce 5500 sucks like crap. simple end of the line. now, pci-express is a new slot replacing agp slots. now, if u buy a pci express card, son't try to put it in a normal pci slot. you should have gone ati if your on a budget. the 9600 xt is very nice. unless ur not on a budget, then just get the 189.00 geforce 6600 gt agp.

now, sexy u know my 6600 gt, i overclocked it to the extremes, and it even caught up with pc's using amd 64!

Yeah, make sure you don't have just PCI, you probably have AGP. Then you can get a much better card. Hell they make X800XT's and 6800 Ultra's for AGP, although it is the last generation for AGP. 6600GT is probably the best bargain priced card before you start hitting $300 and up.

Which benchmarker? I know that on 3D Mark 05 with my card overclocked, and my 2.0GHz 3200 at 2.5GHz, I beat people with FX-version AMD's. It's amazing how a bit of tweaking can get you faster than a lot of other people who stay at stock. Try using Everest Home Edition and checking your memory read/write/latencies. It's a great performance tester.

sexy i used 3dmark. you overclocked it from 2 giga to 2.5 gigahertz. my dad couldn't even get it from 1.8 giga to 2.0 giga! now, my geforce 6600 gt is overclcked from 500mega to 565 mega, and the memory has been clocked from 900 mega to 1.0 gigahertz. amazing huh? and thx for the other info i'll check everest home. is it free?

Yeah, free at lavalys.com

When you were overclocking, did you relax the memory timings, adjust voltages, etc.? There's gret guides at guru3d.com and creative forums for overclocking.

thx sexy, i'll check there. but won't voltage increase like wear down the GPU? and by the way, why did u go abit? i thought u said asus and gigabyte or DFI were better.

No...Actually right now, out of all the boards we've had at LAN's, my Abit Fatality seems to be everyone's favorite.

No, don't increase the voltage on the GPU, that could easily ruin your video card. Increase the voltage on the CPU as you slowly increase the FSB to get stability. You should go to guru3d.com and look at their overclocking guide. In general, you don't want to incease your CPU voltage more than .1v, but even adding .025v can give you stability. For example, a stock 3200 runs at 2GHz with 1.4v, however mine running at 2.5GHz needs 1.475v to run stable. Best for you to go to their forums, though.

the guru 3d's forums, right? not the articles ,right? cause the artciles weren't too helpful. but increasing voltage will wear down the CPU faster

oh when i upgrade my pc to pci express, i plan on selling my geforce 6600 gt agp for a VERY high price cause many people don't wanna upgrade to pci express, but they just want to upgarde ther video card. so, i'll sell it on ebay for about 250.00, and even say i can overclock this card for that person. sound like a crazy idea or a great business deal for me?

If someone is willing. You can't just set your asking price on ebay, though, else you'll get no bids.

Increasing the voltage wearing on the CPU. Hardly. CPU's should last 20+ years anyway, I have a Pentium I, it still runs (pretty crappily, too). It's not much of a problem, as long as the temperature stays below 60C or so.

YAY i just got some more case mods: i2 blue uv reactive sata cables and some more RAM with another thermal take heatsink. The only problem now is that, i have used 2 pci slot covers for the switches and i cant figure out if i can put both of the heatspreaders into one switch. ill have a play later and tell you guys.

with regards to the person that said his case was 'hot' can u tell us what u got or giv a link to some pics?

You can always mod your front 5.25" panels to hold the switches. You'll have to remove them from the slot brackets, but I've seen it done, and it looks quite nice. Besides, reashing behind your case is a pain sometimes.

u should decorate ur case with those christmas lights and cover it with them.

my case has 2 fans with blue red green, and some blue gel lights at the front. they are very flashy and probably UV.

oh one more thing, how do u increase the fan speed of ur video card????

u need the right software or a fan contrioller. that basicly sits in ur optical drive bay and u can change it from there. the gd ones also tell u the tempreture and give warnings when its too hot or unstable.
yh i have used one of my drive bays for the switches. i used a empty floppy bay and drilled a hole in it, just enough for my switch for my neons to fit in. i also filed down th edges and covered the edge with some black plastic to match. its really neat but unfortuatly if i wanted to do that with my ramsinks swithces i would have to cut holes in the drive bays aswell as the drive covers. becos they swiths is long. (if u undrstand ne of that ).
also i dont mind reaching round my pc as it isnt too big allthough its a gaming tower and its right next to me on my desk.

Sites like xoxide.com or xpcgear.com , sometimes coolerguys.com have good prices/very good selection, as newegg and zipzoomfly have slim pickings. The aforementioned are catered toward the more 'hardcore' pc user.

I have about 200$ canadian Dollars to spend on my new video card, i recently bought my computer, not buying a PCI-E motherboard because i will end up buying a new computer in around 3years. I need a new video card as i am running my brother's old Geforce 4ti 4200. I am looking at a 6600 256mb Geforce. This is the cheapest i have seen. http://www.canadacomputers.com/cc/index.php?do=ShowProduct&am p;cmd=pd&pid=006598&cid=999.821

Does it matter what brand it is if it is stilll on a Geforce 6600 chipset? Also, are there any other possiblilities i should consider in the same price range?

Thanks.

They probably do, they've got a warehouse close to Washington, wouldn't take much to get it across the border. I know tigerdirect does but their selection and prices leave a bit to be desired.

$200 Canadian = $165 US

Hmm, well the 6600 normal is a bit poopy, the GT is good if you can get it, it's about $190 US, near $230 Canadian. Save another $30 or so and get it, it is much better. It's worth it, trust me.

Equivalent ATi would be X700Pro, but that's not AGP as far as I know.

Yes, other brands are good, pretty much the same card. Same chipset, usually same or faster clocks. XFX has it for the cheapest I've seen and it still performs the same as the built by nvidia one.

Dude ioniz you switch your avatars a lot...you keep faking me out, lol.

i love puzzling people and forcing them into utter confusion........

nah, i just can't find the right avatar, plus not many people have the dead grunt avatar or the elite avatar so u should be able to recognize me. sexy u should change ur's into that smart looking 343 guilty spark. you look like some stupid ass (witch ur not) with that red clifford dog. no offense though

now, the 6600 should be enough for a gamer like him, but it really is better to choose the 6600 gt. it is tons stronger and now i actually am one of the best people in halo multiplaya since i switched my geforce 2 mx. but its ur choice

by the way, u like my new avatar sexy?

Lol, the point of my avatar - I dunno, just seems funny as hell, the rabid and slightly mutilated Ling-Ling doghead...I use it on other forums, too.

Judging from the fact that you're *willing* to buy an Alienware, you would probably have no problem buying dual 6800GT's. They will perform better, much better, on OpenGL games and will by barely beatable by an X850. They are pretty much better. However, I really suggest you do not get an Alienware! Think, you can buil your own, decide what goes into it, decide what case to get...much more control, besides it's about 50-70% cheaper. If I were to buy my pc on Alienware it would cost twice as much as it did for me to build it.
