I'm pretty sure there are many standards of old school. Not only do people have different experiences, but we also have different ways of defining from that what old school is. I'm not very old, so my first video games were for the Super Pretendo. From that, I might define old school as what is old enough that I haven't played it. I could also call the first consoles I've used old school. I've even seen some refer to relatively new stuff like the playstation and N64 as "old skool". Note ugly spelling. Outside the context of video games, I see the term applied to stuff of all sorts of ages, sometimes even newer than the newest above mentioned game consoles. I've heard the term used for stuff that didn't even exist anymore when my parents were born!
