I recently bought Halo for PC, but my computer's graphics card can't take it. Since I currently have money to burn (It was my Birthday yesterday), I was wandering which is the best graphics card to buy.

Hi bud,
i had the same problem, but i looked on scan.co.uk and saw that the ABIT SILURO FX5900 OTES was on offer, under £160, so i got one. I am so pleased with it. the graphics opened up in a new light, especially on the ice levels. i run it on 1024 and have no problems at all!!! check it out.. Regards TERMINATOR...aka (robotronixtwo)

It depends on how much money you're willing to burn on a video card- it easily be the most expensive part of the computer.

If you're willing to get a card in the $400-$600 range, I'd save my money and get the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra when it comes out.

A Radeon 9800 XT I would expect (or the nVidia equivalent, although it is slightly slower). I use a 9600 Pro, which is more than enough, and can probably be bought for less than a hundred quid now.

I had the same problem with my VisionTek Xtasy 9200 SE. When I played the Halo demo, it crashed alot, causing my computer to restart. I went to ATI.com and downloaded the new Catalyst driver for my card, and I didn't have any more problems with the demo. So, I bought the real version, and sofar, I haven't had ANY problems with the game. The card cost me $80 and works fine with a lot of other game...but I'm lookin to buy a Gerforce FX 5600 XT.

I'm also looking for a card that could support Far Cry as well as Halo.

If you got money to burn, pick up a radeon 9600 XT with 256ddr. The 9800 isnt worth it because it is the top of the line model, coming in at like $500 (im from canada). If you really want the best card though, wait for the 6800 Ultra from Nvidia. Gamespy just did a test between the Ultra and Radeon 9800XT and the radeon got SPANKED! 3Dmark scores were above 10,000, usually about double the radeon. As the resolution and graphics options were turned up, the nvidia pulled farther ahead. Of course, ATI is releasing thier new kick ass card in a couple of weeks.

Any DirectX 9 card then. That covers Radeons 9600 - 9800 the GeForce FX series, although the earlier ones of the latter have serious performance issues.
