In response to a previous post, i have tested and am having an expert halo player and friend of mine confirm that the Marines in Halo are better fighters when they are fighting you, just a few minutes ago, i was playing the Pillar of Autumn on legendary, and on "covenant on the landing above us" part, i killed three Marines which then denotes the masterchief as a target to them/puts them in kill the player mode, i then moved on through the level, gaining entry to the second maintenance access tunnel, at the end of which there are about five grunts and a red and blue elite, with two marines down the hall (by the stationary sheild and health pack) i opened the door and backed up when the music started playing, i waited to see what would happen to the marines, and, though they used more grenades than usual (which is mostly why they won) they both survived the encounter and killed every covenant in the hallway... including the elites, all without any help from me... surprised enough i reverted to the checkpoint i had just crossed and tested this over and over again, the Marines did die a few times, but always killed most of the grunts and one elite... it seems to me that Bungie programmed the Marines to fight harder or maybe increased the health for them, when they determine you as a traitor... try for yourself, i will be testing this further and trying it on different levels as well to try to find more of what happens to them.
