(the low down)
For Christmas I got an "ATI 9800 pro" graphics card I went to put it in and realized that it hade to be connected to the power supply, and hard drive. The only problem is the power supply is the only thing I haven’t........messed with before. My dad has been saying that he’d tack it some were to get it put in, but that was 3 weeks ago and it doesn’t seem to be on the top of his agenda. I have a gateway 700 series, can’t find the specs anymore, it shows simple instructions on how to remove it, but not how to at something. Is there a site were I could find a more detailed manual on my computer. I wana know more about the power supply before -blam!-|ng with it.

Anyone who can help shall be recognized as god to me.

Ok I assume you know the basic! (You know uninstall the old card and staying grounded!) But you are not really hooking the card to the hard drive and power supply. What you are doing is taking the power supplied to the Hard drive and splitting it with the Card. So disconnect the power cable to the hard drive and replace with the power cable supplied with the card. then connect the card and the hard drive to the other ends of the cable. then all you have to do is install the drivers and you are good to go. But make sure your power supply is big enough to handle it. 250 watts should do it but I would feel safer with 300. I hope this helps good luck!

Heyyo,

Hmm, I'm not sure if gateway pc's have a agp slot, check into that. If it doesn't even have an agp slot there's no chance that vid card will go in and you'd need a new motherboard.

It justs connects into the agp slot, and the power supply, it's easy, just use an anti-static bracelett, or touch the case for the power supply, I say so cause you need to get rid of your static charge, cause even the smallest charge can destroy the chips in your computer (CMOS chips).

Do you have to split the power supply with the hard drive with a PCI express card?

okay, no its not the x700, it needs pci express.

Pollopoesca - on the main halo menu, go to settings, video settings, and there you have it! Set particles, textures to high, enable specular, enable shadows, etc. A good resolution to start with is 1024x768, then work your way up.

i'm still having a few problems, on in perticular is the scope, you know how in halo in the darkend areas its blured, well it blurs all of it making it rather hard to use the zoom for the pistol or sniper.

and i cant get doom 3 to work with it. i can get to the loading screen but thats it.

Did you update your drivers? The ones that come with the card are usually out of date. The ati website should have the most recent drivers. This may not be the problem but it is a good idea to update anyway.

I was responding to someone who asked me what card I was getting because I asked them if hte x700 would need it's own power source.

Heyyo,

For ATI? Ever since the Radeon 9800 series I believe they've needed an extra power source straight from the PSU.
