I'm reading Cobra by Timothy Zahn (author of the 7, 8, 9 star wars books along with many good sci-fi books.) and the Cobra's "invincible soldiers with surgically implanted weapons" (not so much weapons as other mods.) These 'Cobra's' were/are humans that went though a pile a surgery giving them ceramic covered bones, servos, a computer in their head, and other things. If you want to read (yes read, and not a game manual) you should check this guy's books out (Neil Gaimen too.)

ANYWAYS my point of this thread is this. Did Bungie maybe take the whole story of the Cobra books, change some stuff, and make it their own? I have nothing wrong with that at all, I'm only wondering. The story is about these aliens, Troft, in a war with humanity, Cobra's are the best weapon against them, it's in space, other planets have humans on them, etc etc. These books were first written in the ummm 80's, so it is possible.

Oh and someone was talking about the books (the Halo ones) and had a poll for which of the current two authors should do the next. Give it to Timothy Zahn in my opinion. This guy is amazing with his own idea and using others, he's proven both with his Cobra books and his Star Wars books.
