Subject: Signature option question

4Base Avalanch MELTDOWN

Chapter Founders Bungie's Group Support
Mob of Angry Peasants

Still getting used to these new forums. I'll admit I have been AWOL form the forums for a while and same with my moderating duties in CFounders. One thing I just noticed with these new (Okay I remember when the New Hotness was NEW) forums is that all the sigs are colapsed.

Just wondering if there is a way to set the Forum signature to auto show instead of auto hide?

Not that I know of, but it wouldn't be a bad idea.

I am...whimsical today.

This is somewhat freaky, I was thinking the same thing in the shower this morning.

I'd prefer sigs to be displayed below the post. Like this:

I agree, the old look was IMO better. I didnt find it to have any affect on the readability (is that even a word?) of the forums either, maybe it did but not to me atleast. Nowdays im rarely to never looking at someones sig.

On the topic of turning on all sigs to show. Im not going to deny anyone the option but personally I would find it hella confusing to follow a discussion with the sigs down the way it looks now so mine would be off.

New Flood the home of all things random

OMG, gaming for the fun of it.

I think it's better the way it is, much tidier considering the amount of junk people put in there sigs.

I personally don't mind the hiding, but Bungie could really nail both sides and please everyone by making that setting you suggested. I also think that it wouldn't be a bad idea if we had picture in them. Not the kind of pictures you're thinking where you can upload any picture of your girlfriend you want, I mean a picture from your screenshots from Halo 3. How awsome would that be? Maybe a little customization as to what it says, but I think having pictures would be a great thing to add first.

Ideally I'd like to see them back as they used to be (visible below a user's post) by default, with an option in one's profile to hide them.

I like it the way it is right now, there's really no need to see a person's signature unless you are looking into that specific user. Sigs would contribute way too much on spam to these forums. I don't think there should be an option to auto-show the collapsed area, but perhaps people could opt-in to have the signatures displayed below each post, but none of the other information.

Agreed. Sounds like a solid idea to me...
I wonder if maybe they'll go with this.

No but ther should be an option to do that. I also don't like how you can have a sig that's too big to show. Iether make their maximum characters smaller, or make it so you can see the whole thing.

It was not my idea to hide them, it was one of the UI designers. However, I much prefer it this way - most signatures are not witty nor interesting. Everybody thinks this, except they exclude their own signature from said evaluation... much like most people think they are better at Halo than they really are.

The signature hiding is unlikely to change.

Its something that should be hidden. Plus a lot of people advert. in there signature and not everyone wants to see them. There everywhere if they are not hidden. Its just something extra to read and a lot of them are so damn annoying!

I don't know, I've seen a couple that have led me to interesting things. I realise that others including yourself prefer not to have to see signatures, and you may well be in the majority (even if you weren't, you are still the Overlord), but I'd like the option.
Then again, if it's a coding nightmare, I'll make do ;)

And a lot of them slip through the rules of the forums. w/ advert. I think signatures should be hidden as an optional feature. Witch they are now. I say they stay the same :D...

I agree. I almost always exclude viewing signatures for almost every site I go to (if there's an option), they're usually useless, and overly bloated.

But, it was nice just having the option of mousing-over, and viewing it on a whim just like that. I mean, sigs are usually pretty useless, yes, and that's why they're somewhat hidden in that drop-down box. But I really preferred the other way.

But ah, well. Whatever works. I hate signatures >_>

I like seeing short signatures, even some with pictures. I like how the Xbox.com forums do it, they allow you a bit of space to post what you like, without taking up a ton of room. It would be nice if BNet could do that.

  • 02.25.2008 3:51 PM PDT

I can understand if people do not want to see signatures all the time. Why can't it be optional?>
