Heyyo,
Hmm, if I were you, I'd keep the cpu, and get a new vidcard instead. That's still a beefy cpu, at the most you'd lose 15F/S over the new cpu, but with a better vidcard like a Nvidia 6600GT you gain like 30F/S right there. ;)
Here's an example from tomshardware..
Scores on Far Cry (AGP):
Radeon 9600 PRO: 22.4 F/S
Radeon 9800 PRO: 40.2 F/S
Nvidia 6600GT: 60.2F/S BOOM!
As you can see, a newer videocard is what gaming's all aboot eh? :)
That's the message I've been trying to get out to us gamers, the most important part of our computer is the videocard, then cpu, then mobo, then ram.
Or, if you still wanna trade in your cpu, that's cool, but the ram? just keep the 1 stick, and just get another stick of 512MB of ram. The difference in speeds of ram is like, 0.5ms, which ain't life-threatening. I tried using just 1 stick of each of my ram before, and I'm very technical, but the difference in speeds of ram between PC2700 and PC3200? That's just on paper, I couldn't feel the diff myself.. So even if your ram's PC2100, I doupt you'll feel it either. But check the ram slot on that mobo, might not be compatible with the current ram you have, if so? get new sticks of ram. The standard for today's gaming is like 1GB. Most new games like Far Cry, UT2k4, is sometimes unbearable with less than 1GB of ram cause it'll try loading stuff like explosions during the fight...
