Subject: Blind in the light, or seeing in darkness?

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

Darkness dies,
Light fails,
But when everything settles,
They were never there,
Lies all.
But the lie matter’s not,
Why should it?
What we believe is what we see,
And we will never see otherwise.
We are all fanatics,
Holding on to what we see as right,
When in fact there is no right,
Only shades and subtleties.
Laughter, anger, tears,
All false,
But entirely real,
Meaning nothing at all,
If you choose not to see.
Perhaps blind,
Perhaps wise,
Opinion reigns with an iron fist.
But if all shifts,
Moving as an ocean,
Never solid,
Never settles,
How can we believe,
How can we see,
What we wish?
What we wish is light to us,
But another’s blackest night,
In the end a fools world.
How can we believe,
What doesn’t exist?
Our basest principles,
Our own senses speak no sense,
If we see them not,
Or if they can not be seen.
Dare we stand on the sea,
Make a base from nothing,
On which to stand,
And preach?
Where must we start,
Where can we?
Can we begin at all,
To believe,
To see?
Blind in the light,
Or seeing in darkness,
Each the same,
Unmoving,
Yet never there.
We know nothing,
But must not believe that.
If we do,
We fall,
None the wiser,
Or wisest of all.

Don't waste poetry on those who can barely comprehend English.

I liked it. It kind of hints at nihilism, but I liked it still.

Quite good if you ask me, but as much as I loathe admitting it, Obbi's right, it has got a bit of a Pyrrhonist Bent.

Dare we stand on the sea,
Make a base from nothing,
On which to stand,
And preach?

That would be my favourite part.

That suprised me.
And you are right about the nihilism part; I do believe that it is partly true, although not entirely. I believe more that we take far too much as fact when it hasn't, or cannot be proven. What we assume would then be taken on faith, as our senses aren't necessarily telling us tru7h. It's kind of like in The Matrix, where the people who are plugged in don't realise it because what their senses are telling them is what they believe.

Meh. I don't like poetry. It makes me angsty. And fear me when I'm angsty.

And that is where believing without seeing, or faith comes in. But then we start getting into religion...

Not necessarily. There can be faith without religion, although I agree, we should avoid the subject just in case.

Ya, considering my beliefs...I don't think I could talk about faith without making it religious. So let's just move on.

Ah! But how often do you actually read your own sig? I like poetry alot, its just that after readin large amounts of it, I get deliciously angsty for a few days... so I tend to avoid poetry in large quantities...

Oh yeah and I liked yours by the way.

What I got out of it was that in the world, there is no truth, only opinions. We can explain what truth is for ourselves, but to another, our definition of truth a lie.

Oh yes, and I did like it. Very good.
