why couldn't something like this have been posted a YEAR ago. I bought Sapphire's 9700 Pro card last july and the damn thing has had problem after problem (the fan just crapped out this week to top it all off). I know my problem isn't what the post was about, but had I seen a post like this last year I would have steered very far from any Sapphire product, not just the one listed (and based on my personal experience over the last 11 months, I will be steering clear of their products in the future).

I suggest only get the video cards directly from ATI. Another good video card to get for a radeon 9800 pro chipset is from Asus. For people who are Nvidia fanboys, I suggest getting the cards from Leadtek. Never had a problem with them before since I had a Leadtek Gf4 TI-4400 then got the radeon 9800 pro and never had a problem with it. Always get a retail box version. Don't get the OEM version.

**DO NOT BUY SAPHIRE 9800PRO THEY ARE RE-NAMED 9800SE WICH ARE MUCH SLOWER

Since many people are upgrading for halo pc i want to warn them that this cheaper radeon 9800pro is not a "pro" its a "se".

Recently it has come to the attention of many hardware enthusiasts that Sapphire is playing a dirty trick on many unsuspecting customers. Sapphire is selling “Radeon 9800pro” video cards that are crippled. These cards have a 128-bit memory interface and lower core and memory speeds than other “normal” 9800pro video cards. Many people have fallen victim to this marketing trick, believing they are receiving a real Radeon 9800pro video card. In reality, they receive a card that performs like the much cheaper Radeon 9800SE.

While some people will be able to tell from the specs that these are not true 9800pro video cards, others will simply look at the 9800pro in the title and believe that they are receiving a true 9800pro video card. Sapphire is ripping these people off.

We, the consumers, should be sending Sapphire a message. Please boycott all Sapphire products. If you have been thinking about purchasing a new Radeon video card, there are many other quality manufacturers that do not use these shady practices.

If word of this site spreads, and people boycott Sapphire’s products, it will not only send a message to Sapphire, but the entire industry. Stop giving products misleading names! It’s bad enough that a consumer has to do some research to figure out what the difference is between a Radeon 9800, 9800SE, 9800PRO, 9800XT, but now we have substantially different products with the exact same name!

Do your research before spreading the word, lest you perhaps spread lies.
If we see the misrepresented product, we can know for certain that people are being hoodwinked. Don't forget that NOT seeing the cheap trick DOESN'T mean that it doesn't exist, though.
We must also consider the possibility that someone's trying to mess with Sapphire for personal reasons and this whole thing is a lie.

I wasn't planning on buying Sapphire's take on Radeon anyway, so I don't have to worry about making the wrong decision; I trust ATI most to manufacture a VGA with thier chipset. If I go for an Nvidia chipset, I'll probably get a card made by Nvidia. I've already had some bad experiences with third-party stuff...

I was acutally thinking about getting this card, but when I went to my local computer shop I was lucky to have them describe to me what a terrible product it was, and that there were many misleading reviews about it! The price made it incredibly tempting but I was told to stick to my ATI 9600 pro.
