Here it is folks, the debate to end all debates. Here we will see just how smart you are! If you can debate in a sophisticated manner, the topic of Music, what type of music is good and what type of music is bad (lame, stupid) then you can claim...that you are smart, or something. So here it is, I...or the mods who would probably do better, will judge the winner of the debate.

So let's get arguing people, it should be fun.

The problem I see with this debate is that it's a debate about someone's personal opinion. You can't prove that someone's opinion is wrong or right, so debating about it is useless.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

You can, however, attempt to present a better argument. Whether or not you prove them wrong is irrelevant.

Alright then, give me something better. The point isn't to have an actual win lose arguement, it is to see who can get their ideas across in a sophisticated, civilized, and convincing way. If the only way you can argue is by joking or making fun of someone, you probably won't win.

I will have to acquiesce with you on that statement.

Heh, I wasn't saying I have something better. I'm probably the worst person to ask for an idea, so... Yeah. I've got nothing.

No problem. It could be something Halo if you guys want. Like is the pistol really worth puting back in, or should the sword have a battery, or something like that. Music just seems to be the topic everyone is arguing about so I thought that would be a good debate topic.

Of course, there isn't going to be much sophisticated arguing going on if we can't agree on a topic...

I don't see that being very long-lived, though...

Thats true. Which is why I think the best topic is probably music...or Halo.

I don't think it should have a battery; rather, it should have a shorter range in Lockout and Ivory Towers, no where else. Those are the only two maps where it's range is too long. The rest of the maps are big enough that you can kill them at range.

They could have been taught from an early age to like/dislike something, and they'll most likely keep that belief or opinion to the day they die.

Trying to prove what type of music is better really won't happen. There is no outright dominant group that will appeal to everyone. Elderly people most likely won't like Metal music, and younger music enthusiasts probably won't take a liking to Classical music. Of course, there are always exceptions to this case.

You can't say "Well, Rock music is better!" since you're just basing it off your own opinion. Everyone's opinion is going to be different, and I doubt there will ever be a completely dominant type of music that absolutely everyone will like.

I'm not sure if I answered much, but I gave it a try.

Well, if I'm arguing for my side, then I'm trying to persuade someone that my slant is better than the opponent's.

These are my opinions on the different types of music that there currently are. Forgive me if I left some out.

Classical: Most of the time classical style music has a nice sound to it. I can be happy, or sad, or soothing. It can be any number of things to a number of people. Also, due to the fact that it very rarely has any lyrics, it is most always original. Currently, people are not making very many new classical songs. Most seem to be content in playing the old ones. Old classical songs are still played and enjoyed all the time. They are often used in movies for s comical effect, much to my displeasure. Other times, they are used in ballroom scenes. This does it some justice. This has to say something for their quality.

Heavy Metal: I really don't listen to much of this anymore. I don't enjoy most heavy metal bands. There lyrics are usually sung too loud, or in such a way that they can't be understood. when they can be understood they are usually repeditive and unoriginal. Sometimes, the bands are good and they make good songs. Tool, believe is one of these bands. I think that the reason the heavy hetal has found such an audience in teenager is because of it's effect, on themselves and on others. To them, it is so loud, it is more like a drug. It lets them escape the world and their problems; whatever they may be. Sometimes, they might just think that it makes them seem "cool" or "dangerous". I just don't care for it.

Alternative Rock: This is mostly what I hear everywhere. In my opinion, the mainstream versions are terrible. How amny times can you hear about how someone's girlfriend left, or how they feel? All of these songs are just covers of themselves. I like the not-so-weel-known alternative rock bands. I enjoy Bishop Allen , Neutral Milk Hotel , and pre- Good News for People Who Love Bad News Modest Mouse as well as the new Modest Mouse. These bands make up songs and original lyrics that are catchy, as well as good. It's very hard to do.

Country: This is , in my opinion, the worst form of music. The singers mostly have terrible accents. All of the songs deal with their "baybahs" and "workhan hard" and their countries. The lyrics are terrible. It's like, they can't come up with very original rhymes. They all sound just the same. I just really do not like that form of music.

Rap: I really do not like most rap. Most of the time, the people sound horribly angry with the entire world. Also, the rappers themsleves sound really stupid. A prime example: one time, on the radio. The chorus was "MOVE! Get out the way, get out the way." reapeated over and over. When I have sufed the radio, that same station just plays really angry sounding rappers. Not all rap is bad. Outkast has good rythmes and rhymes. It is extremly original. They sound intelligent, and never angry or stupid. That is about the only rapping group that I like. I suppose that Emienem is okay.

Dance: Most of the the time, dance has terrible, and I mean terrible lyrics. They are usually really childish. But, they have amazing and catchy beats. The way I see it, it doesn't matter. At a big dance or party, no one is really that serious. If fact, they are mostly just partying to the beat and ignoring the lyrics. This is why I say that despite the lyrics, dance is pretty okay.

Classics: These are most always great. That is why they are classics. Good beat, wonderful lyrics, and they leave you with a good feeling afterward. The Beatles, Elton John, Tom Petty, Beach Boys, Phil Collins the list goes on. A few aren't very good, but most all of them are. Surf the radio and find a station that plays these. It'll be worth it.

Pop: Yes, when I was about 9 I loved Britney Spears and N'sync. But, now, sign, they hold no appeal for me. A boy can only stand so much "oh-oh-woah-oh-oh-oh-ing" and "oo-ooooo-ooo-oo-ing". I really don't think that anyone over ten likes this sort of thing anymore. Modern pop is terrible Sure, they cute, they're handsome, they're hot, and they're high-pitched, but they all say the same thing. For the female pop "stars" it's about how "dirty" they are or can can be and how they have to be themselves. For males, it's about how they miss their girlfreind and are so sorry for something they did. It really does get old. It's like the Garfield stips for crying out loud! Man, all those years ago, there was Micheal Jackson. He knew pop. And knew it well. He songs were original. His songs were good. But, now, things are different. Maybe one day, a popstar will come and finally be original again. If that happens, they will become the king/queen of pop.

Rythme and Blues: Well, I don't really like the "rythme" part of rythme and blues. All of those songs are about their "babies"(I don't mean kids) and how much they love them. I know that people love their girlfireds but a single artist doesn't need to make 20 songs about ti. They're just like slow pop songs. "Boys 2 Men" and "Nelly" and they rest all sound the same. I do however like the blues. I'm really sure why. I like the overall sound of it. The way it sort of echos. It sounds mature. Sort of aged and rust so nice.I can't imagine Nelly picking up a harmonica and playing some good blues that sounds like it has soul.

Covers: Now these can go either way. Some are good. Take Johnny Cash's cover of Tool's Hurt. He made it better. He kept the original beat, but just using an acoustic guitar gave it more feeling.I really enjoyed it. Most covers, though, aren't good. They usually just make a mockery of the song. Like some good classics that are about medium-speed, are taken and made fast speed rock songs. The worst part is, the rock version is played more so that is the version that people remember.

Accoustic Variations: Some songs are rock, and then the artist takes it, and plays it only on an accoustic guitar. This sometimes gives the song feeling and depth. A prime example would be Smashing Pumpkin's Tonight . The lead singer re-did it on just an accostic guitar, and it was amazing. This is also done with other songs. I think that it inproves them half the time. The other half, it makes them dumb and sappy.

Okay, thats about all.Thank you for taking the time to read it.
