Why does it have to be so large scale wtih someone turning on the human race. I believe it is as simple as Cortana turning on the Master Chief. no not like that... (bet ya can't stick it)

did anyone read a post of mine in the a earlier thread how during a time of seperation (like on 343GS in halo 1) cortana could betray humanity to the covenant cos they offer her like eternal life or something and she is secretly more emotionally human than what she thinks? remember she has 7 years to live.........
and wouldn't it be hard without cortana's help sometimes?

i thought she only has seven years because she'd actually teach herself to death....how would the covies stop that from happening? and what do you mean wouldnt it be hard w/o cortana? i made it through the library without her help..thank you very much!

Hey Hawkeye707 guess what?

We fought for 27 years against nothing but Grunts and Jackals and they kicked our ass at every turn. It wasn't until 2552 in July I think it was that we first ran across Hunters and Elites on August 30th of the same year at the Fall of Reach.

This is true, but the Grunts and Jackals were backed by the Elites. They used Elite technology, and the Prophets and Elites directed the Grunts and Jackals. My point was that without Elite leadership, Grunts and Jackals would be like a body without a head.

Also, this was the first time that Humans had encountered aliens with superior technology. Now, however, humans are much much better equipped. They also now have Spartans. As you read in the prologue for Fall of Reach, the Spartans are capable of taking out hundreds of Grunts and Jackals without much of a strain.

*Also, is it possible for Cortana to commit treason? May be it is, but she IS a program after all, and she may or may not have those limitations. While she was instilled with Dr. Halsey's personality, that would mean that Dr. Halsey would be willing to convert to the Covenant side.

Finally, just because the Covenant despise all humans and want to kill all of them, this doesnt mean that they wouldnt "ally" with a bunch of rebels. It would be just like aliens (and the Covenant) to pretend to make a deal with human traitors, just to learn secret information about humans. Then, when the war was over, the Covenant would brutally kill the traitors anyways.

I'm pretty sure there is strain. It just takes good planning and a few Spartans to do it, not just one.

no offense meant i assure you. maybe with the covenants superior technology they could make her live longer, or fake it. anything to get the halo and human data she has.

I don't know if Cortana would do anything for eternal life (because she doesn't live for only seven years, but is only useful to Humans for that time; after seven years she reaches a state where she spends all her time thinking and is separated from us forever). She might do something for knowledge, though.

If the Cortana letters are still relevant to the Halo games, then she doesn't like the Covies very much (she looks down on their fanatical religious beliefs). If the Covies offered her access to other Forerunner data banks, she would just as easily double-cross them as well for her own benefit.

Notice that as soon as she enters the Control Room's computer, she starts rapidly changing colors. Could she be going . . . . rampant ?

whats to stop a specialised elite or engineer from hacking her making her a new evil dark cortana? (can you imagine and don't take it the wrong way)

Change in color shows a change in her emotion, but who knows if she really is going rampant?

Yeah, but in Halo 2, there are about 8 Spartans and they are certainly capable of making good plans.

The elites may break off first, they are the iron heart of the covenant military, but why do
the Covenant hate us so much, and how are we an affront to their alien gods?

I think the Jackels and the grunts would rebel against the elites, because they can't stand the elites.

no they wouldn't those two races cant stand each other....its much more likely that a war or feud starts between the grunts and the jackals

Well we know Cortana is gonna go nuts and were going to end up with something like Durandal all over again...can see it all too much as she ages. Will it happen near the end of Halo2? we don't know yet, we can but guess.

As for Ackerson hmmm, he's a rat. Joining the Covie? naww, can't see them taking him. Now joining up with Guilty Spark hmmm, Sparky sure knows how to play to people, and offering Ackerson a "weapon to remove the Covenant" can just see him running along trying to be Mr Hero type and save the world, only to end up putting us in even more trouble. Really don't trust the guy, that and he has his secret project which competed with the Spartan2s that we still know nothing about. Whatever it is, its bound to screw up and come back at us.

The Covenant hmm, thats a wierd one. The Grunts would rebel just as they hate the Jackals, hate the Elites, hate everyone. As long as they have a nice cozy place to sleep with lots of food and methan they are running along pleased with the world. Jackals hate the Grunts and follow orders but don't always agree with the Elites, always some tension there. The Elites are odd, they are followers of the Prophets but really they do feel they can do better than them sometimes as a Prophet puts the will of the Gods first, over the Elites strength through force and conflict mantality. Hunters will follow the Elites due to there ability as tacticians but hate everything else and really don't mind flattening anything else if its in there way. Brutes are the religious protectors really. Alot more strict to the Prophets. I could see the Elites and Hunters leaving the Covenant if say some kind of peace was made, the Elites would go nuts at the Prophets for not finishing the job as it was so insanely tactically unsound. Like in the Flood when Zam had to face the Prophets, he hated having to follow the orders but did it as it was the thing they do. There is alot of tension there, and if the Prophets made a hugely bad move in the face of the Elites they would go nuts. Will it happen though? doubtful really till we do find out. Has to be a reason though to start it, as without a good reason they wouldnt do it.

And then there is Dr Halsey. Where did she go with Kelly? Could she betray us? *shrug* I can't see it but who knows. Maybe she does something seen by UNSC as betrayal and we're sent to stop her, maybe she is seeing the larger picture and doing it for the best, maybe we actually fail in our task for once and she wins....could be open for alot of twists with Halsey.

But will we be betrayed? undoubtably. It happens as a keystone in every Bungie game. The betrayals in Myth, Soulblightler, and the Marathons. Maybe we've come to expect them and there isn't one, but I do doubt that.

What about the egineers? They wouldn't care if we converted them to our side. They might even like it. They could build us new better ships and stuff with the information cortana has. Better than the covenants.

Rebels giving info to the covenant wpuld never happen, covenant hate humans. If you have read the flood it turns out that some humans betrayed the others and gave the covnies lots of info thinking that the covies would let them live. Wrong, they brutally killed them anyways.

Yes and no.

We have John-117, Fred-104, Linda-058, and Will-043 for sure. Then Kelly-087 that is MIA, and three others that were on fields of combat to distant to be easilly recalled at the time Reach fell.

Four are confirmed, well near confirmed and then the other four we can't be too sure about.

this is a really tough question. From reading the books and playing the games: the Elites do not like the way prophets worship (through temples and prayers), Brutes and Elites dislike eachother, jackals and grunts dislike eachother, grunts are treated horribly by the Elites! Who will it be!? Hmm, but, there's also the Master Chief. In the Book, The MC was getting deaper and deaper into the UNSC's secrets. Maybe he'll break off from the UNSC to save the Human race? Who know's, I highly doubt it, although it could happen. If there is a break within the covenant alliance, I think it would be the Elites. I'll explain.
For one, like I said earlier, Elites dislike the leaders, giving them good reason to abbandon them. 2nd, they hate the Brutes. The Brutes are also the ones guarding the Prophet, meaning that maybe the Prophets don't really trust the Elites. 3rd, is that the Elites are stuck with weak alies, except, of course, the Brutes. In the books, some were amazed with the Spartans strengths! Maybe some will join the spartans? Who knows! But I know I sure had fun contemplating the Ideas! lol

you may be onto something, after all he starts to think for himself and question some of ONI's ethics
