The button combo's (aided with Auto Update 3) were a gift to the community in a way.
As much as you may think, Bungie had a very clear way to stop the button glitching from occuring without ruining the game.

They could have removed the strength of the melee where a BXR or BXB weren't possible. And could have simply removed some of the bullet magnetism and get rid of the effectiveness of the Double Shot (making the game much more like it was pre-patch).

I personally was never that good at them, coming back to the game well after the glitches had been found, and I still think that they are a benefit to the game.

Using a glitch to play better is like using a gameshark... you're dependent on another source in order to kick the can. There's nothing impressive about that. And to come bragging about it on the streets is a great way to defile yourself. Go for it, you're digging your grave in a swamp.

No, it's nothing like a Gameshark. Any player can use the button combos provided they have the skill required. (Yes, it does take skill, and if you say otherwise it's because you haven't done them.) A player who takes the time to learn to pull them off consistently should be able to reap the benefits.

i agree with both of you here. button combos are NOT like gamesharks and such. the impact is not as significant with the button combos as it is with gameshark stuff [action replay is soooooo much better BTW. i got the gameshark just to mess around and the most interesting thing was a gold banshee.] button combos dont take a large amount of skill. only enough to make it hard for those who dont catch on fast. i [and bungie] still consider it cheating. but if someone BXRs me once in a game, im not gonna throw my controller across the room and start screaming my head off

I don't use button glitches to 'bash' halo 2.

But nevertheless they were stupid, destroyed what little weapon balance there was, contradicted much of the game design and were easy to use. The quad shot is hard enough, but double shot wasn't hard and BXR was pathetically easy.

Put it this way - if you think they added depth to the game, it's a pretty sad state of affairs that it needs that extra depth.

i agree with some of what this guy says...at leas the first part

No, anyone who disagrees with you actually has an IQ above 25.

If you don't understand the premise of the word 'glitch' and 'cheating,' I don't expect you to succeed in life. It's a good thing you poor sac whacking nubtards haven't moved on to Halo 3. It's a better place without you.

You are the kind of newbie that Halo 3 is catering to, the main reason why it's such a failure. You don't like Halo 2 because you sucked at it. You never could BXR. Why didn't Bungie fix them? Because they liked them. Bungie has stated they're fair game, and not cheating in the least. Now crawl back into your hole, scum.

That my friend, is where YOU are wrong. Bungie clearly stated that button glitches are infact cheating and glitches. They were never intended to be in the game.

Oh, and I could use them, just chose to play legitly.

I do agree with you on that Halo 3 is leaned toward the newer players, but its something that you have to go along with(even though its really hard and annoying).

Cheating and glitches only apply to matchmaking and are fair in customs, the scope of this discussion.

Ahh, but direct modification of the game in any way over the Xbox LIVE service is still a bannable offense.

That's not to say that using BXR is a bad thing in customs though.

Um, who are you responding to? Out of context, this has almost no meaning with the topic.

(The combo's are in the game code, they aren't injected into the game via a modification.)

Edit: I borked the quote.

You have reached the voice message system. To place this call as urgent, press eleven.

Wow. You logic is... uuuh... interesting. Less aim assist requires more dexterity, smaller hitboxes make targets harder to hit, the PP doesn't home near as much, the sword actually requires descretion, and all this makes H3 noobified...

  • 03.07.2008 7:45 PM PDT

wow i love how the OP thinks that just because pepole say that BXR,BXB,double shot etc...are cheating and cheap etc.... must be noobs who couldnt do them, to that i ROFL.i could BXR and quad shot you all day, but i choose not to because IMO they are cheap and take away from true skill.now for the inevitable "button combos take skill" no they do not, atleast not in halo,in MK i couldnt pull off alot of the real advanced button combos (specially with raiden) yet in halo i can quad shot and BXR you all day, but again i choose not to.whats really funny is that the top MLG pros arnt the ones -blam!-ing about the lack of button combos, its only the posers or the pepole who couldnt even make it out of the first or second round of the open brackets who -blam!- the most about the lack of glitches.the top MLG pros didnt need BXR and what not, because there skill was enuf to get them to the top BXR's etc.... only gave them a little nuge but look at the H3 PCL#1 playoffs, guess whose there? FB, s8rippin, carbon, FBI the agency and evry other top team from H2.and if you dont play in MLG or are not even a poser, then any shot you had at making your point sound credible is now lost.

yeah such a failiure
thats why halo 2 only ever has about 900 people playing, whereas Halo3 has around 400,000

butten combos = glitches and therefore cheating

if anything theyve made halo 3 harder to be good at, its all about map control and use of grenades.

only noobs use the excuse 'whoever shoots first wins' if your any good thats not the case

Cheating does NOT APPLY TO CUSTOMS. Jeez idiots, learn to read.

And Halo 2 has about 10k, and Halo 3 has more because uhh, it's newer? You have an excellent head on your shoulders.

the reason theres still 3,000+ people still on halo 2 is because of the button glitches and super bounces and the reason halo 3 has 400,000 people is because most of them hate button glitches or cant do them.

halo 3 is much easier to be good at than halo 2. I've gotten a 39 in about 3 days of playing team doubles with my friend.

The reason i hate halo 3 because its slow paced and noob friendly

I don't think they are the best thing to happen but they definitely took more skill.
What's harder?

RRX YY RRX.

They add more depth to the game.

  • 03.08.2008 3:16 PM PDT

I think people only like them because cheap button combos, which not everybody learned, gave people who spent a lot of time on the game an advantage over a whole crowd of other players.

For example, if you knew that somebody was going to come up and melee you, and you knew how to BXR, you could easily kill them if they didn't know about it. The same goes for quadshotting.

People just love button combos because it allows you to kill people more easily and then teabag them while saying "Oh, get (forced intercourse)ed, N00B!!!11!1" People are mad now because the same tools are available for everybody, the playing field is more level, and they can't own people who don't look online for more hints all day long. They have to simply use their aim, adaptation, and teamwork which aren't consistant from game to game/map to map.

"Combos were something that separated the pros from the..." n00bs.

That is so true. If you need to cheat at this game to get over, then what makes you think you would get over in a fair game?
To tell the truth, playing against cheaters is more fun. It makes the game more interesting. If there were no cheaters, it would get boring pwning you all day... you know, like playing campaign on easy. Personally, campaign on legendary with multiple skulls active makes the game interesting. So good job, keep cheating. The alternative is getting pwned.

people who use button combos in MM are not going to do bad in a game without button glitches
in all game types except sniper i use button glitches but in snipers you cant button glitch and i have a 43 in that

so people who button glitch wont do bad if they dont button glitch
