OK, so I had an Idea, any who wish can pitch in and help with this, it's a community effort. Suggestions also taken.

Everyone complains about the file forums moving to fast, and nothing has the time to be noticed. I am of the personal opinion it's just that no one takes the time to notice. I propose a few of us active contributing members, who wish to help, team up and do something about it. How, you ask?

Simple: Take time, whenever you can, once a week, or more, or less its up to you, but take time and visit the File Forums. Not to post, but visit, got 3 or more pages back, and start rating and commenting everything. This of course takes more time with maps and game types, but with screen shots at least it's a quick and easy. And download any game types and/or maps you think interesting, and come back and rate and comment on them. If you have the time, download random ones.

I myself just rated and/or comments about 3 pages worth of screen shots, and put a few maps and game types on download queue to play later.

I am of the opinion that if a bunch of us community conscious members pitch in, we can make a lasting effect on the Files Forums. It's not going to happen overnight, but a Community Effort can do nothing but good in this situation.

Discuss.

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

In theory... I am for this. But in practice, this wont work. As much as even I try to comment and rate in the files, you can't keep up. People want their shots/ clips noticed. Hell, I killed myself with a shotgun and no one even wanted to see it. It's kind of a dog eat dog society now that Bungie is picking "Favorites". Rightfully so, though. It's totally in their right to pick em.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

If people weren't doing this before, I doubt they will do this now. On occasion, I will look at various screenshots, rate them, and if I like them, I will make a comment. However, I will only do this for things that I truly find fascinating or different. That's how I think the forum should be used, anyway. People should respond and comment things they like more than things they don't. Otherwise, it will bump those screenshots back to the top of the page.

I agree, right now it is very dog eat dog, it is my hopes that if enough people join in it will at least calm the storm, and hopefully inspire others to catch on and do the same. We'll see how my hopes turn out though.

Good to see it actually being discussed though...

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

There's a group that is dedicated to screenshots and keeping the nicest and greatest shots a live. It also is a haven for discussion about screenshots and techniques. It's not a "Rate my shot" group.

They constantly pull outsiders in and take notice to shots that are underappreciated.

"If you have nothing to say, don't say it."

There aren't enough "conscious" members who would pitch in, as much as I like this idea. I don't think that most people would spend their time to benefit the community.

People will not post and risk bumping their own threads down the page. But the only people who visit the forum are people posting their own content. Why else would you want to visit the files forum and look at the endless screenshots of explosions or gametypes of zombies.

When something genuinely amazing emerges it usually comes to light, but rarely from the files forum. Most of my current favourites all came up in custom games. Why would you want to find cool gametypes or videos and screenshots by reading about them? Play them and review them yourself.

So my advice if you want your thread to thrive. Play some custom games with friends, and have them bring their friends. Play your gametypes or show them your screenshots, and if they like it, direct them to your thread in the files forum.

I mean... even in this thread, how many of you have read every post?

I've read all the posts in this thread. And, I think taking the time to rate everything, not just what you like, is the whole point. Doing this will bring to light the really well received threads, not just what has been spammed for attention enough.

If you try/view it, then rate it. Even if you give it a one, it helps.

I never said "Rate Everything." That's almost impossible. But taking the time to rate every Map or Game Type you try, or Screen Shot you view, can only have a positive effect on the forums.

Playing time!

I like the idea.

What realy irks me is that I can hardly find any forged maps of pre-heroic maps. Foundry is cool but it's not the only level that can be forged.

It is probibly better if you have your XBL/onlie friends go to your threads to write comments on them.

Other than that I wouldn't not try to compeet with anything on the file share forums. Over half the posts have bumps on them.
