Taxes do nothing to affect the share of wealth, since taxes are only applied to income.

So that's not even a part of the conversation at all, so it's pointless talking about it....

"for a "best" moral to exist, there must exist the "best" moral base. If the base of morality varies from location to location, culture to culture...then there can't be an absolute moral..

I have started this thread to help us all get a better understanding of the forum rules and how we are to follow them. I am starting this discussion here in an effort to help keep our communication channel to bungie as clear of clutter as possible. I hope to hear what you guys think of this matter, and I am most interested in hearing from the mods to learn how they go about making decisions about which threads belong and which ones do not belong in optimatch.

It seems to me that the optimatch forum has become littered with inappropriate threads. It seems that people are civil in most threads, and that most posters wish to keep optimatch on the up and up, but that many threads emerge and stay active when they do little to advance discussions about h3 mm. As of late, optimatch has seen a surge in duplicate threads and threads that are not constructive (as far as I can tell).

There are threads that are either duplicates or seemingly inappropriate for optimatch along with the number of active threads in the top 6 pages:
Add a SWAT playlist: 7
Networking threads to find people to play with: 5
Add a snipers playlist: 11
Add an infection playlist: 6
Create new versions of old maps from earlier halo games: 5
Add an MLG playlist: 3
Discuss why you hate MLG: 1

As you can see, there are many duplicate threads open, and this is just from the last 5 days (my counts are not exact as thread locations change so quickly). We all want to be able to make our concerns about mm known to bungie, and we all want bungie to listen to us, but I fear that this process is being bogged down by the seemingly endlessly supply of duplicate and inappropriate threads.

Also, I hate to ask for this since I know why people make this sort of post, but I think that the mods should crack down on people making posts on duplicate threads reminding the OP of the forum rules. This aggravates matters and keeps duplicate threads and threads that belong elsewhere on the front pages of optimatch.

I would like to hear what you guys think about this situation. Am I worrying about nonsense? Are optimatch’s threads not as bad as I make it sound? Should the mods do more or less about this sort of thread creation?

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

As Jeremiah stated long ago, the Optimatch Forum is the most important forum on BNet in terms of giving feedback directly to Bungie. Except for the feedback that they solicit directly from certain groups of people (MLG, clans, testers, etc.), Bungie's matchmaking guys depend on that forum almost entirely when they want to obtain community feedback. In that sense, I agree 100% that the forum should be kept clean and clear of both off-topic and repeat threads.

The Optimatch Forum is great in terms of super-sophisticated discussions with intelligent folks, but you're right about the relatively high number of bad threads that go unchecked (although I still think that the Optimatch Forum is somewhat cleaner than the others). Report button is a good method of getting rid of bad threads, and hopefully the moderators will continue to be diligent about cracking down on those threads in the Optimatch Forum.

I guess in this sense, I am agreeing entirely with your post -- I do not think that you are worrying about nothing at all.

The only way to stop duplicate threads is to pin the most-discussed topics. Even then, there are going to be so many that it's going to be very difficult to find what you need to discuss. There's really no way of stopping this entirely until some cataclysm happens (i. e. all copies of Halo 3 disappear, the planet explodes, the B.net server crashes, et cetera).

I agree. There don't need to be 7 SWAT threads. There's already one with 1900 replies so why do people think there needs to be another one?

There are a couple good topics on the first page of Optimatch but the majority are complaint threads.

Maybe a cleanup is in order?

They call me Arch. YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Posting on the forums: 5 minutes.
Making a thread: 20 minutes.
Claiming you are the alt of a banned account: Priceless.
For everything else, there's stosh.

The only reason why I do not post there is because of the mass disorder and absolutely outrageous threads having nothing to do whit the forum discussion area. Its like a dumping zone for all unwanted topics on the other forums.

So yes I agree a mass clean up should be in order.

For I think we all want to post there.. As much as we do here on these forums.

That would be The Flood.

take a look at the top page right now. there is a thread about why people hate mlg, which is patently inappropriate for optimatch, and now there is a thread about why people love mlg. and, for some reason, threads started to try to find people to play with keep popping up and do not get closed. and, of course, people keep starting new threads asking for 1v1 every few days, and they are not being closed either.

i have no idea what distinct responsibilities each of the mods have, but i would think that if any of them were to look into the first few pages of optimatch right now that they would close at least a dozen threads. i wonder why none of the mods have been closing inappropriate threads over there in 5 days. i am afraid that the more inappropriate threads pop up and remain open, the more likely new bnet members will be to post in them and to start similarly useless threads. i hope that the mods will enforce the rules and make it clear to everyone how the optimatch forums are supposed to be created and unfold.
