Subject: Halo2 Dservers -- where have they gone?

I may have many gripes about H2V, as many of us do. Nevertheless, even I must admit that once I get onto a good server, I experience thirty seconds of fun for hours on end and don't get tired of it. It brings back memories of the good ol' days of Halo: CE, running races around YoYoRast Island and playing snipers on Blood Gulch...

However, all of that is contingent on finding a good server. Hosted games are way too laggy and feature an annoying host-advantage. The dedicated servers have, up until now, been decent -- there're usually at least two good dedicated server games at all times. Halo2 DServers 11 and 19, especially, have been spawning grounds for great games and lots of fun.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I logged onto H2V almost a week ago and found that of all of the Halo2 DServers, only one remains (and that one has been restricted to gold users). Where have the DServers gone?! It's rare now to find a consistantly good server, and all of the current dedicated servers support specialized gametypes like snipers, swords, oddball, and rockets. That's well and good once in a while, but I'm aching for an actual game of team slayer.

So if anyone knows, please tell me -- where are the DServers??

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

Well seeing as the number of players online at any one time is close to the single digits, I guess Microsoft didn't see the point in the those dedicated servers if not enough people were using them.

Shame really.

Are there really so few people playing Halo 2 Vista? There are always many hundreds playing Halo PC.

Yes, its sad.

There just isn't enough people out there to keep the game going really. It had such potential but it just got farked over with all the issues it had. Most people that went to H2V when it came out went back to HPC within a week or so.

I don't blame microsoft for dropping the servers. Waste of money and bandwidth hosting for that game.

It would have atleast one player more if Icould get the multiplayer working and not always get the message: We're experiencing some problems. Sorry about that. Happens when I try to connect to a server

I would of probably bought Halo 2 Vista if Microsoft didn't try and tie it to a new operating system, seriously, I know there is ways to get it working on XP, which i'm not going to talk about since they don't work online.

We're experiencing some problems. Sorry about that. Happens when I try to connect to a server u have to refresh ur list. h2v dosen't show full severs, and when a sever is full or closed down, and you don't refresh, you don't see that change and u get that error.

It's true that there aren't as many people on H2V as Halo:CE, but if that's the case, shouldn't they try to make the game better instead of removing its best servers?

In any case, whether it's worth it or not for Microsoft to host the dservers is almost a moot question. Does anyone have any real information about the servers? Are they gone for good? Are they down for repair? Who maintains (or maintained) them in the first place?
