I am fairly new to the Bungie Family in that I have only played Halo. Love it and all that rah rah jazz.

I was looking at the archives from the '96 letters to the webmaster. I read a passage in a Haiku actually, see subject line. I immediately remembered seeing that phrase interspersed on Bungie.net.

Is this some Myth phenomenon or what? Just curious. Any insight is appreciated.

If I have my facts straight I believe "Frog blast the vent core" came from a Bungie game. Late one night while recording the voices for the game they were saying random phrases that could possibly be used in the game and "Frog blast the vent core" was one of them. It was used in the game and is kind of catchy so it stuck. I think in the game it would be the equivilent af a Marine saying it ("Frog blast the vent core"). Like when a marine says, "Whoa, a Mark V!" (or something like that).

Check out http://marathon.bungie.org/ (the Marathon story page) you may find the answer in more detail.

replying to your own post like you did. Don't do it again, please.

Frog blast the vent core is a Marathon phrase. It was one of the weird remarks the simulacrums made when they saw you.

From the simulcrans? ah good! I thought i heard it uttered in the middle of a fray late last night and all i could think was, "Man, I gotta stop reading the webmaster's letters late at night . . . they're starting to get to me . . . "

Excerpt from "The Marathon Scrapbook"...

Page 21

One of Bob’s more unusual lines, “Frog Blast the Vent Core!”, caused considerable controversy among fans. What was really said, and what did it mean? Dough explains how this arose:

“The idea was that some of the assimilated Bobs become insane from their conversion and run around yelling nonsense. Alex said to me ‘say something random’, and that phrase tumbled from my lips. Totally spontaneous. While I could have sat down and thought up something more random than that, it worked out well, since it sounds close enough to a real sentence that it kept people guessing and generated some fascinating (and totally wrong) discussion about what the phrase was and its meaning. One popular theory was ‘God bless the Marine Corps!’, which was a fair guess, but still wrong.”

"Question: What do I have to do when someone on the street is running straight towards me, yelling "frog blast the vent core"???

-- Student of the K.U.Leuven

I think the answer is obvious: retreat to a safe distance and fire at will." B.net Webmaster, 1996 (the first letters)
