Subject: Is H2/vista worth buying?

I'm looking to get H2V around Easter, but I've heard that there are rarely any people playing it, and it's mostly heavy weapons.

So my questions are, is H2 worth buying, and is it hard to find a match?

Thanks.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Last time I was on, there were enough people on for severals games to run at one time.

It's worth buying, in my opinion, if you can get it for $20-$30.

It is all right. (I do not want to hear your opinion Aggy). There are enough people playing to find a good match. And only one or two servers have heavy weapons. All the others are somethinglike Random weapons or classic.
It is rather easy to find a match and I reccomend using the server browser, not matchmaking.
We could always use another Halo 2 Vista Player

(Bungie > 343i)

If you have a good PC i would recommend getting it... as long as you can run it.

H1 and Halo Custom edition name: madkiller92
xfire:madkiller92

get it. the ES clan sever is never hevies, most servers r not hevaies only, there are no hackers, and therer r enogh people, about 80-120, but once u get into a game, it can last a lonng time. and campaign is great too. post ur specs as well, u might wanna upgarde before instead of buying h2v and other games.

I'm going to be playing on a laptop, which is probably bad in it's own. I usually turn the graphics down to low anyway, I find it helps me a little. Specs here. ATM I can play CS: Source and Guild Wars without any problems.

Because it's a laptop, it might be hard to upgrade, but I saw the recommended specs and mine seem to fit it rather well minus the video card. Vista says I have a 3.5 in that sector.

Based on the specs listed, if you do have the 8400GS, then it technically should run it, but, as usual with most games, laptops aren't supported. It will be hit or miss as to whether it runs, and if it runs, well.

What's your Vista specs index? They recommend 5.0 (which is really high, even for Vista) but one of my friends who plays says he plays easily on 4.0. Mine is 3.5.

My old one was a 4.2, and it had a fair bit of visual lag in SP and MP.

My current one is a 5.0 that breaks down like this:

CPU: 5.0
RAM: 5.8
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming Graphics: 5.9
HDD: 5.3

It has no visual lag of any sort.

Hmm, maybe I'm unlucky then. Mine are like this:
CPU: 4.6
RAM: 4.6
Graphics: 3.5
Gaming Graphics: 3.5
HDD: 4.9

Should I give up, or still give it a try? I should also note that I will not be using campaign in the least if campaign is more intensive (which I doubt it is :x).

You can give it a try, but it probably won't run that well.

Campaign is more likely to visually lag because of the fact that it has all kinds of spawning AI and loading AI to do.

The best part about all these threads is that this has ALREADY been asked literally HUNDREDS of times on this forum. Do you hear me? Hundreds.

Even if each one wasn't a bunch of people who want to share the misery "I don't want to hear your opinion aggy" etc. etc. etc. it would STILL be absolutely ridiculous that you find it easier to make an account and a thread to ask this question, instead of simply looking at other threads.
Here's how it breaks down.

People who did not want Vista and realized that Halo 2 was a crap game on the xbox did not buy it.
People who did not know any better bought it.
People who legitimately liked Halo 2 (god) and already had Vista and had a SIMIDGEON of hardware knowledge bought it.

Anyone who purchased the game will lie about how smoothly it runs and downplay the difficulties of it to legitimize their decision.
Anyone who didn't buy it will tell you the facts while giving off an incredibly annoying air of superiority they barely deserve.

If you seriously cannot think of any other games to spend your 30 dollars on, I can't help you man. I just can't do it. That's my opinion, straight up. There are hundreds of better choices out there and I am truly annoyed you made a thread to ask our opinion - But there it is.

And It seems as if you've already made a decision to buy it anyway, so you might as well learn pretty quick that "vista index" is crap and you should probably give those who want to "help" you your actual hardware specs.

I liked Halo 2, already had Vista, and have very slight knowledge of hardware. I'm much more of a programming person, really.

I linked to the actual specs on the product page a few posts up.

Well then that is, indeed, my bad.

Like I said, my opinion. I found Halo 2 to be excruciatingly unbalanced and it is now one of the uglier games I've played.
You've got Crysis, The Orange Box, Call of Duty, Bioshock, UT3 etc. etc. etc. and you're picking Halo 2 for the PC? it just seems WRONG man. Gah.

I have TOB and COD4 (which sucks imo), played Bioshock and don't much care for UT3. :P I also love Halo 2 and it's definitely one of my favourite games, so I thought I might as well.

I have all of those, bar Bioshock which I want to get, and I love all of them and H2V.

I already had Vista since the day it came out, and I have a great knowledge of hardware. I knew it would run kinda laggy in MP on my machine, but it runs great now that I upgraded.(I had a 6800GS/XT and now I have an AMD X2, DDR2 800, and an HD 3850)

  • 03.05.2008 4:00 PM PDT

Just thought I'd chime in...

I loved Halo 2 Xbox for the multiplayer, thought the campaign was downright boring. But I bought H2V when I got a Vista PC a few months ago. Found out real quick I had to get a new graphics card. I have mediocre specs, but I'm able to run it decently, windowed, at medium resolution. My Windows Experience Index is 3.6.

Part of the draw for me was that I felt I deserved to get achievements for the countless hours I spent playing H2 and getting H2V was the only way. Luckily, the H2V achievements are a LOT easier to get (in most cases) than the H3 achievements. Take that information and digest it how you will.

Is it worth $50? Probably not. But I suppose if you're a completionist or just really loved H2 then it is.

Add me on Xbox Live. I shall show you a SUSHI!

I bought Halo 2 Vista for my laptop, It's a HP Pavilion dv6000series and it works smoothly. I think it's worth getting it.

Really? My graphics card is slightly better than yours. Anyway, I've sort of decided not to get it because I don't want to take the chance of it not working. I've chosen another game. Thanks for your help, everybody.
