Subject: WAY TO GO BUNGIE!

someone els, or course.

i understand that you the staff signed it, but its not fair to people out there who have something on there box that gets earased and there never gunna get to see it again! so why should he?

then approach that someone else to redo their work.

You see, THAT is what is the point of this story. Bungie heard about this guy's plight. They aren't MS, they aren't XBL, but they felt that he got a raw deal and they did what they could do to make this good for him.

Bungie is not the tooth fairy and isn't here to right all wrongs. It's not their place to go to your artist and ask them to "step up and help a brother out". If the person who did your art does that.... good for them too!

i wouldnt be posting this stuff if i could have gotten my art work back on my box.
but i cant anymore.

Maybe you should try posting on the message board of the guy who did your art, and not bungie.net, since they had nothing to do with your 'Sick graffiti".

ya i think its great that bungie is doing that!
but why does he get his stuff back but i dont get mine?!

So, if you donate your time to one good cause or charity, do you think that it would be right for people to say "that doesn't mean anything unless you do it full time! (or for every charity, or for ME!)" Don't you think that because you do something nice or good, that it shouldn't be hassled for "not being enough, or what about my share?"

If you had a console that had autographs on it, sent it in for service, took all of the steps and got all of the reassurances that this young man did, and then got a different case cover back or the same case cover completely erased.... even if all of those things happened identically.... I don't recall hearing about your story. In other words, you didn't have as good press. Sorry.

This one incident should serve as a warning to anyone who has one of a kind artwork on something that they may have to send to the factory. The fact that this individual was able to get the problem noticed by lots of others, that is (maybe) the contribution and the extra step which got him some replacement signatures and artwork on his console.

Personally, I would hope that he has the work done on a removable skin or an empty case cover. Because if he is using that 360, then it is at risk of failing.

i completely understand what your saying.

all im saying is, i dont think someone should get a special treatment just because something on there box was erased.
if i would have known i could do something like this young man did, i would have. but my knowledge at the time was that Microsoft erased it so its gone for good.

he is getting special treatment because he won or whatever that xbox from bungie. i think i even remember the contest. then microsoft screwed it up, but really, whos surprised here. Its called taking care of your fanbase. They have the generosity to give out something like that, and they care about their fans an awful lot, so they're going to back up their stuff if something like this happens. I'm sure your "sick graffiti art" wasn't a prize in a contest from a developer, or anything like that, so your case isn't as valid as this kid. This was a one-of-a-kind, one-time deal...how many people can say they have an xbox with all of bungie's autographs? 1.

if you got your "sick graffiti art" from a game developer, go to them and tell them, maybe they'll be cool, or maybe they'll think you're mooching. There is no sense complaining about not getting special treatment since your case really isn't as special as his.

In other words, "Something crappy happened to me. Nothing positive came of it. If that same crappy thing happens to anyone else, it is only fair if they get nothing good out of it either!"

That (to me) shows me that you don't understand what I am saying.

This guy didn't get "special treatment" from Microsoft, or from XBL support. He got the same shaft that you did.

The good thing is that the people at Bungie (who were cool enough to sign and draw on his console to begin with) heard about this suck ass incident and wanted to help him out.

It has nothing to do with the fact that the console got wiped clean. Nothing. It has to do with the fact that Bungie fans love Bungie and Bungie loves their fans right back.

I don't know how many different ways to explain it. But if you are feeling that you were somehow "double cheated".... you weren't.

ok..
i love bungie just like anyone els out there does. iv supported you guys from day. iv been apart of the community. and all the good stuff.

but iv never been rewarded with anything that has gone wrong with my xbox, or my halo disk, or my art work.

so it that fair to me that he got his art work back but i didnt.

is it because i didnt try and contact someone about this? or what?

  • 03.04.2008 10:56 AM PDT

your artwork wasn't done by bungie, was it? if it was, try and contact them, but i highly doubt it was. as i've said, go to the person who did it and get them to do it again. or go down to your local school, go to the art department and say "draw on this. make it shnazzy" art teachers/professors go crazy over weird ass things to draw on.

Since your friend is dead he cannot redo the artwork.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Well, there you go, Bungie still exists so they could redo it. You close friend would have redone it too. Some people just get the short end of the stick in some cases. I would go and ask Microsoft what their policy is on repairind consoles. Maybe there is omething in writing how they do not support custom artwork on their consoles. Maybe they break the case and put a new one on. You could get lucky, who knows.

In case you haven't been informed, I am the "kid" in question (I'm actually 22 years old and married, but no one seems to notice or care :P)

Did you ever stop to think about my possible motives for breaking this story?

I did not release this information to b*tch directly at Microsoft, nor did I break it expecting compensation, firings, or handouts of any kind. This story was released as a way to get the word out to others that you cannot count on ANY custom aspect of your console to come back to you if it is serviced.

It is a cautionary tale to other XBox 360 owners who get the RROD.

The whole point of this exercise is to use my misfortune as a way to benefit the gaming community as a whole and to help Microsoft support find a way to prevent something like this from ever happening again.

You are incorrect in this assumption.

I preordered my console months before launch. I did not win this machine. I DID, however, meet some of the game developers in person last May at a Red Vs. Blue fan event in Vancouver, BC. Although we were all hanging out in a bar after the partial season 5 screening and we'd all been drinking, many of those present remember the event. Some of them may even recognize me... maybe. They were pretty plastered by the end of the night, after all. XD

Didn't you know? Drinking is the next favorite pastime for Bungie people, after snacking.

It's good you're getting something back, still sucks, what happened, though.
