One thing that Bungie has not mentioned but has shown is the ability to carry more than just two weapons at a time, not "wield" but "carry". In the E3 demo, Master Chief starts out with a BR. He is then given an SMG which triggers TWO SMGs to show. So now MC is carrying 2 SMGs along with a BR that he switches back to when he snipers the Jackals in their little "V" formation.

My theory is that MC can carrya quantity of 3 weapons (at least): 1 two-handed weapon (Battle Rifle, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, etc.) and 2 duel-wielding weapons (Pistol, Needler, Plasma Rifle, SMG, Plasma Pistol, etc.)

...and just to settle the confusion of grenade throwing, if you have seen the E3 demo, you will have noticed that when he was being flanked by the Elites he had to put one of his guns away in order to hold a grenade. Therefore, he must have one hand free in order to throw a grenade. But this brings us to another topic...the possibility of being the grenadier with DUEL WIELDING GRENADES!!! I know...not possible.

Please DO read this because it could be an unspoken feature that Bungie let slip by!!!

It has been spoken of though,. Chances are you can carry two two handed weapons, or one two handed weapon and two one handed weapons, or four one handed weapons. And I highly doubt that you will throw two greandes at once, as it is very unrealistic.

In the E3 demo. Did you wonder if MC already had one SMG with him, and got the other one later? And, Bungie probably fixed the problem if you were right...I agree that dual grenades is impossible.

I already said "not possible".
Anyway, he didn't drop his gun. He put it in a holster. That's the 'click' you heard. And I do think that he already had an SMG in the first place because you usually start out with 2 guns. In this case, it was an SMG and a BR.

The SMG isn't falling to the ground, the Master Cheif is actually just clipping it to his belt.

And MC Number 117, this has been a question looming in the back of my mind for a while. Thankfully, you brought it up again.

I have a feeling you will be able to carry one non-dual weapons, and two dual weapons. With the dual weapons though, I think you will not have the option of using them seperately, but when you change to your secondary weapon you will have use both of them at once. This would be bothersome, since you dont always want to use both of them at once, but unless Bungie allows you to use 3 seperate weapons, that's the only option.

This is very doubtfull. One thing I've seen from Bungie is they like to give us control of what we're doing. Having to pull out and use 2 weapons at once doesn't make sense because Bungie knows that while duel weilding is cool there will be situations you won't want to use it. In Halo we were given 2 slots to carry guns with and grenades were used by our left hand. In Halo 2 we're given the ability to use both hands for 2 different weapons. I think they will maybe give us an extra slot dedicated for the left hand (part of the new armor). I also remember them saying or implying early on that control of the left hand was separate from the right hand, in that you could switch your left hand from grenades to a gun, and vise versa, without affecting your right handed weapon. This is of course assuming your right handed is a one handed weapon in which it would automatically switch to a single handed weapon. If you don't have another single handed weapon then it simply won't let you switch. I think this will also apply to picking weapons up. Just as you had to have a gun selected for switching, we will be able to select left hand or right handed slots for picking up weapons. This was maybe hinted at or verified on the E3 demo. When MC takes the ONE SMG from the marine, he automatically switches to duel weilding. This could be because he picks up the weapon with his left hand, automatically making it the current selection, and so the right hand automatically switches from the BR (two handed) to the SMG he was already carrying. I also like the idea mentioned above that two handed weapons will take up 2 slots, one handed weapons will take up one slot, allowing us on a 4 slot system to carry 2 double handed weapons, 1 double and 2 single handed weapons, or 4 single handed weapons. I think that sounds like the smart way to go.

well, egassler...if you are right about the 4 slots, I think it would very difficult to change weapons. If you wanted to pick up a BR and already have 4 weapons, you would have to choose what 2 weapons you wanted to drop. Personally, I wouldn't want to be in the middle of a battelfield and spending more than 5 seconds trying to pick up a gun that is probably low on ammo anyway...would you?

This is easily taken care of extending something I started to say. You have 2 slots for your right hand and 2 slots for your left hand. If you pick up a 2 handed weapon with your left hand it drops both weapons in your left slots. It wouldn't be to hard to impliment either, when picking up a weapon in halo is says press x to pick up, in halo 2 you press and hold x and press left or right trigger to add it to those slots, it will replace the weapon you have selected in that hand, or in the case of the left hand if you are in grenade throwing mode it will replace the last weapon used, unless of course it's a 2 handed weapon in which case it will just replace both slots.

This isn't that hard would be quickly picked up as easily as Halo 1 was to pick up.

How do you suppose you will switch the weapon for each hand? Hold Y and press L or R?

Just tapping Y will automatically switch your right hand to its next weapon, otherwise yeah, hold Y and press L or R. And maybe for the sake you have a one handed weapon in your left hand you want to use but you still want to be able to throw grenades you can put away your weapon in your right hand and use it to throw with.

Ok talking about this has just given me a new idea of how I think it will work and it will be ultra cool and slick. Give me a few minutes to do it though as I'm going to do some graphical representing to help explain it.

I think you must be able to carry at least 2 double handed weapons eg battle rifle and rocket launcher. Obviously you will be able to carry at least 2 single handed weapons (same type or not). To make it similar to Halo you would still have a limit on the number of weapons you can carry - and you don't want too many options to chosse from in the middle of a battle, you want to be able to flick from one weapon to another with a single button. I'm not going to throw out any theories about how they'll implement this though - I'll just get proved wrong.... ;-)

Ok, here's the setup!

We get 4 slots for holding guns, 2 on the left, 2 on the right. Picture it like this:
[L1] [R1]
[L2] [R2]

Ok, 2 handed weapons will fill up 2 slots, one handed weapons fill up one slot, allowing you to carry up to 4 one handed weapons, and 2 two handed weapons, or 2 one handed and 1 two handed weapon. They would each be represented like this: W1= one handed, W2= two handed:
[W1] [W1]
[W1] [W1]

[W1] [W1]
[----W2----]

[----W2----]
[----W2----]

To switch weapons you already have you still press Y for regular swapping, if you have a one-handed weapon equipped and possess another one-handed weapon you can Hold Y and tap L trigger to equip the weapon in that hand. If you have multiple one handed weapons repeating this will cycle through them. To pick up a new weapon it's the exact same as before, press x. If you have just one single handed weapon equipped and you pick up a two handed weapon and you need to drop another weapon to pick up the 2H then you will drop the one you have equipped and it will automatically drop a second weapon. If you want to choose which weapon you drop you simply equip it to your left hand before making the exchange. They could also just limit it to you have to have 2 weapons selected to pick up a 2H, avoiding the possibility of dropping the wrong one. To make your left hand go back to holding/throwing grenades you press the black button and it switches to grenades.

An alternative to Holding Y and tapping L trigger would be to press the Back button to equip a gun in your left hand and to cycle through them. I think I actually might even like this idea better. Otherwise everything I said above would be the same. I thought about replacing this idea into the Y-L-trigger idea but some people might like it better so I left it.

Keeping everything else like the original Halo and I think this fits pretty good and would work good for actual gameplay. Anybody have any objections or am I forgetting a function.

Edit: Another variation I just thought of that some people would probably be less confused with would be to only be able to carry a max of 3 weapons at a time, or only 2 double handed weapons.
[S1] [S2]
[S3]

S3 can hold either a one or two handed weapon, S1 and S2 can each hold a single handed weapon or combine to hold one two handed weapon.
