You're right, this is too complicated for probably a lot of people out there. It wouldn't be any harder or more complicated for me, but that's just me. Bungie needs to stick to only carrying 2 weapons at a time because holding any more (which they showed already) is too complicated for people like you. In fact, I don't know how you can possibly be comprehending the whole duel weilding thing, that must just be blowing your mind, perhaps you might want to consider a break before you blow a circuit or something.

Hmmm.....

HAHA your so funny...

Halo was good with only two weapon 'cause you could rush someone with a charge-up plasma then swich straight to the AR and send 'em to hell... Halo2 will suck balls if you have to pause in the middle of a rush and select from a list of possible gun combinations. It just wouldn't be Haloish...

I seem to be missing your point on it being hard to switch weapons. In Halo you know what other gun you are carrying at all times, there is nothing on screen that tells you, you just know. If you have a third weapon or even a fourth weapon why would it be so much harder to know what your other weapons are. It can still be done quickly. You press Y for the next gun, as its coming in if it's not the one you want press Y again. For people like me we will know that it will take 2 pressings of the Y button to get to the weapon we want so we can just double tap Y and that weapon will come up. If you're in the middle of a firefight and need to think and act quickly don't worry about the second weapon at all. Again, people like me pressing the Back button to draw a second weapon in the middle of a firefight won't be a problem. And all any of this means is that if you and me are playing against each other in a FFA slayer and are in the middle of a firefight I will be coming at you with 2 weapons while you'll be coming at me with just one. And you can throw grenades at me, I'll decide to retalliate, press the BLack button real quick throw a grenade or two, and tap the Back button again to go back to duel weilding, all the while I was still fireing my right handed weapon at you.

Man I can't wait to play this game.

Oh and if there is something in particular that is seeming complicated please state what it is. Just saying something sounds complicated doesn't do much to prove a point or even make a statement. Car engines are complicated to many people, but many people also find car engines very simple. Different people comprehend things very differently from other peolple. So to help me understand exactly what is so complicated about my idea for the controller setup, please ellaborate for me.

I don't know how it would work all I know is Bungie won't mess it up, and that I think you would be able to hold 2 two-handed weapons (like someone said before) a BR and a rocket launcher but with far less accuracy

my point is that with with four single handed weapons the possible gun combos get complicated

for example lets say you have four different single handed guns

* pistol
* plasma
* needler
* SMG

plus you have grenades

possible gun combos are:

* pistol and plasma
* pistol and needler
* pistol and SMG
* pistol with grenades
* plasma and needler
* plasma and SMG
* plasma with grenades
* needler and SMG
* needler with grenades
* SMG with grenades

little bit more complicated than Pistol or AR.... get my point now?

I think that when you switch to dual weapons, you will not be able to throw grenades until you switch back to a two-handed weapon. the former grenade trigger will become the trigger for the left hand weapon. if you look closely at the e3 demo, just after mc switches to two smg's, he waits for another marine to throw a grenade into the small alleyway. meanwhile, he's just standing there deciding if he's going to hide around the corner.

I'm pretty sure they let you hold a single handed weapon and throw grenades - imagine a level where you only had ammo for a single handed weapon... but you really need to throw a plasma grenade a group of elites...

I dunno, maybe when you're using dual weapons the back button becomes the grenade button. It's just a suggestion...

So, how do you guys/gals think Bungie will impliment the leaning ability?

Like Splinter Cell PT? Press a button to wall hug, then just press in the direction you want to move/lean.
Or some other way?

I see your point GHF, and I still don't think it would be too complicated for actual gameplay, it's not like we get to pick which weapons we want at the beginning or anything. However I do think that holding 4 weapons would be to much, but they have already shown MC holding 3 weapons in the E3 demo. This may have just been an oversight or something and in the actual game we will only get a max of 2 weapons to hold. Thats actually how I thought it would be until the E3 showed 3 guns. I do have for you however a very simple button layout. I went and grabbed my Halo manual and studied the back for a few seconds and it allowed me to see this.

A Button – Jump
B Button – Melee Attack
X Button – Pick up/ Swap/ Reload Weapon(s)/ Perform Action
Y Button – Switch Weapon (Right Hand)
Blk Button – Switch grenades/ one handed weapons / Pick up (left hand)
Wht Button – Light

When pressing Blk button, will only switch to weapon if two handed weapon not equipped, otherwise will only cycle through grenades.
With Max carrying capacity 3 weapons. Pressing Y with 2 weapons equipped and unequipped weapon is two handed weapon; Two handed weapon will be equipped and both single handed weapons holstered.
If you have a gun in your left hand and move over another weapon, you can press the Blk button to drop the gun in your left hand for the gun on the ground. If gun on ground is two handed weapon will also holster right handed weapon in process.
If you have 2 guns equipped, pressing X will reload both guns

In the case of the E3 demo, MC only started with 2 weapons, BR and the SMG. Then when the marine was handing him the other SMG, the player pressed the blk button to automatically holster the BR while grabbing the new SMG and pulling out his first SMG. If he had pressed Y it would have just picked up the new weapon and equipped it in his right hand, and holsters the BR. If he already had a third weapon pressing either would have traded the BR for the SMG, but pressing BLK would have brought up the duel weilding as well, and which weapon from the 2 unequipped that would be brought up would just depend on the order they're in.

EDIT: in reply to Halo owns you

maybe when you have duel weapons out you press the switch grenades button (ie black button) and it puts away one gun and allows you to throw grenades - push it again to switch grenade types and again to bring back the 2nd weapon...

I bet that you have to press the black button to switch to duel weapons and then you press it agian to go to one weapon and grenade.

i dont know if that made any sence but oh well. just my thoughts.

Here is a way to put my thought in laymen's terms:

Y = cycle through 2 weapons (right hand)

Blk = cycle through grenades and/or 1 weapon (left hand)

To explain it even more it means that you get a total of 3 weapon slots. 2 slots are for your right hand, and 1 slot is for your left hand. I don't think that it will matter which hand that you use a needler in and which one should have the pistol because they will have the same amount of firepower. So it won't even matter what button to press to pick up a gun. All you would need to do is pick up 3 weapons. So just press X to pick up either 2 two-handed guns, 3 one-handed guns, or 1 two-handed gun with 2 one-handed guns.

I guess that wasn't really in laymen's terms, was it? It was more like a revised version of "Who's On First?"

Yes they mentioned this in the story on Halo 2 in OXM, they said you could hold two different weapons at the same time but at the cost of grenades. I don't really like the idea of having 3 weapons that means you would have to make the dual weapons undesirable by itself, I want them all to be balanced like in the first, with a few exceptions(AR and Needler), I don't want the weapon to be weak by itself but powerful with two.

Twelve Large ²

An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

The first thing we have to remember is that the presentation at e3 was a "demo". The demo was used to show off some new features, weapons, moves, etc.. It was by no means a final representation of Halo 2.

With that said.. Let the speculation commence..

I would actually prefer that bungie keep weapon selection the same as the original.
Two weapon slots. + Ability to dual wield certain weapons.
3 weapons CANNOT be carried as shown in the demo.

For me, the key would be simplicity, weapon balance, and fun factor.

Simplicity.. You can't get much simpler than the original. 'x' marks the spot. In Halo, you could pick up and cycle through your weapons with ease. Awesome.

Weapon Balance.. In terms of dual wielding, you want to make sure that it's worth while in a given situation. If the Battle Rifle replaces the pistol (3 shot kills), then how do we persuade others to pick up two weapons AND give up the ability to heave grenades at the same time? I know, you make dual weapon wielding a phone booth killer. In other words, dual weapons should be the way to go for up close and personal engagements with enemies and vehicles.

Fun Factor.. You want gamers to take advantage of every weapon in the game. You want them to see the bullets flying. You want them to hear the plasma burning. You want gamers to create their own display of fireworks with a nice blend of Covenant/Human artilliry firepower. You DO NOT want it to end up like Halo. Halo = Not enough fireworks. LOTS of blackcats, though. POP... POP.. POP.. : )

Oh, sorry, I got a little side tracked. :p My vote is for --> Only TWO weapons can be carried at any given time, regardless..

with all this speculation about button combos, don't forget the d-pad. It doesn't HAVE to duplicate the thumbstick, so there's four more buttons for bungie to play with...

Have you ever spent 2 minutes in a multiplayer match just trying to pick up a certain weapon that a dead enemy just dropped? For example, I kill sarge, he drops a rocket launcher and a needler, but I want to pick up the Rocket Launcher only... I drop my AR and grab the NEEDLER! WTF! No, I don't want the Needler, I want the Rocket Launcher, -blam!-, and I want it right now! So I press 'x' again in quick fasion.. And I get MY AR BACK!! ...And for some reason I still have the needler. : \

I can only imagine what it would be like with a pile of four weapons sitting right there. Make it five if they drop 'em near a weapon spawn point.
