No, this will be abused, time and time again.
There are restrictions to who may lock a thread for a reason, in the end the decision is that of a bungie.net employee or moderator.

The common member just isn't responsible enough for that type of power, not saying you or another specific members isn't responsible in your day to day lives its just that when it comes to bungies property, its their call.

No, because it would be easily abused, and because once you create a post, it is no longer your property -- it is the property of the community.

This feature would be pretty easy to abuse: as soon as someone starts to lose an argument, they could just lock their own thread and prevent further discussion in it. Sure, the bungie.net staff could take care of the abusers, but if the feature isn't there in the first place, it doesn't create that problem. It would also be easy to cross-post -- you could simply post an advertisement for a Halo 3 group in the Underground, for example, and then a few hours, you could just edit your post to say "Whoops, wrong forum" and then lock it.

Once you publish a post to the forums, it is no longer yours to lock. It has been posted on a community forum, effectively making it a part of the community. The post is yours until you publish it, but once you submit it to the listing, it is no longer yours.

I don't think that just because other forums support something, that that necessarily means that bungie.net should also support it. You have to look at what the design philosophy of the site is -- whether it would mesh well with what we've got now, and how it would impact people here. In my opinion, it's not something that we need here on bungie.net.

Demerzel was right, once you create a thread on B.net it is not yours, its the community's.

Everyone has a right to contribute where they want, by locking our own topics we could silence discussion, and that's the opposite of what we are going for.

I can only agree with the repliers above. This has been up for discussion a million times and people would just lock threads left and right whenever a reply isnt correlating with their own opinions. The mods are pretty fast when it comes to someone requesting one of their own threads to be locked anyway.

There is no such thing as "your own thread."

Foman is right. Once you post the thread it becomes part of the community. It doesn't belong to anyone, it can be used by anyone to post in and take part.

i dont understand how it woulb be abused if YOU'RE locking YOUR OWN thread.

You Created it, By Clicking on the [Submit] Button to post your thread, you release all ownership of said thread to Bungie LLC. The thread in question can now be locked, edited or deleted at the bungie.net moderators / employee's digressions. If you would like to contest the ownership of any thread you are welcome to hire a lawyer and take Bungie LCC to court where you will have your butt thoroughly whipped by bungie's team of high priced lawyers headed up by the late Johnnie L Cochran who was resurrected by MS as part of Bungie's Departure agreement.

As i was onced told you cant really bring a law suit upon a company that has an LLC so either way you would lose
and i didnt know about the whole releasing ownership thing

The forums are for discussion, not strictly answering questions. Sometimes it's nice to go into a thread where someone's asked a question and contribute. Not just look at one answer that was given and then locked.
