There are two groups of people in the world - those that hope, and those that wish. The first group hopes that nothing bad will happen. The second group wishes that they are there when it does. Which one are you?

Okay, here's my best theory for Halo 2. The crystals found scattered throughout the galaxy, so far found on Sigma Octanus IV and Reach, were put in the different places by the Forerunners for future races to find in case of emergency. They vary in power, with some able to distort gravity (and supposedly the entire time-space continuum), but contain star charts as well. We already know this. We also know that they contained the location of the first Halo. Assuming the Covenant know this and what other powers the crystals possess, they are bent on finding them all before any other race can use them. Okay now that i've dispensed with the common knowledge, here are my conjectures.

The most powerful of all the crystals is located on Earth, only we don't know it until the Covies show up on our door looking for it. There may be something to do with the fact that East Africa is supposedly the origin of modern homosapian life on Earth. The Covenant need to find this artifact especially, since we have captured or destroyed all their other attempts

My most plausible explanation for where Dr. Halsey and Kelly are is that the good Doctor managed to figure out the positions of the other Halos with respect to the Covenant homeworld. What if one of those Halos had a blast radius that covered all of the races of the Covenant, but didn't come near earth or the human colonies. It would make sense to try and set it off and completely wipe out not only the homeworld, but every world of the Covenant. This provides for an amazing possibility. What if instead of starting off Halo 2 playing as MC, you find yourself aboard the Chiloptera-class ship with Dr. Halsey and you start playing as Kelly! The scope of Halo 2 would be enormously broadened by alternating two different battlefields at once. One as Kelly attempts to set off the second Halo, and one while MC tries to get to the Forerunner artifact and stop the covenant before all of earth is glassed. Then MC and Cortana figure out just what is going on at the same time the Covenant figure out that there are already humans trying to set off a Halo to destroy their worlds. So the Covenant stop their invasion of Earth and immediately take all their forces to the new Halo. MC being the badass mother that he is, decides he isn't going to let the Covenant show up to kill Kelly and Dr. Halsey and stop their plan, so he (and possibly some other SPARTAN-2s) hitch a ride aboard one of the covenant ships before it gets away ..the human fleet is spare parts now :( ...and they arrive at the new halo. A number of things could happen, either the MC helps Kelly set off the halo and they escape into slipspace, or the Covies are able to destroy the Halo before that can happen. If that's the case, MC has but one alternative, make a pin-point jump into the atmosphere of the Covie homeworld and set off a NOVA. IMO it would be an incredible ending to sacrifice yourself in order to destroy the Covenant, or perhaps the Doctor, or one of the other SPARTANS.

I also found something the High Prophet of Truth said at the end of First Strike to be very interesting. He...errr....it...said in his interrogation of Tartarus that one more artifact of the Great Ones made no difference...well that kinda kills my theory but what is more interesting is that after a loss of a 500+ ship armada, he pretty much just shrugs it off and refers to a Great Journey that is about to begin. What could that be?

I doubt that you can play as anybody besides John. I'm pretty sure this has been confirmed.

I just want to know y ppl think that everything is happening over in Africa. Aint it possible that the covenant were just using that place as a base of some sort?? Cuz in the Halo 2 trailer the entire earth is being bombed

Great work Nelo, and though I really dont think your theory is likely, parts of it seem both logical enough and crazy enough to be in Halo 2.

Yes that very well could be. But what if the other Halo's were infact located only near the Earth / Human Colonies, and the other crystals are infact used to set off the cataclysmic blast that would destroy the human race and the Covenant are searching for these crystals that they need to activate these Halo's and the Master Cheif and Cortana are traveling from world to world searching for these too b/c they have a way to find these. And then once MC found them they could redirect the Halo to target the Covenant's homeworld and their colonies. hmm... now your making me wonder what the story could be..

I was under the impression that the Halos are linked, and if one blow, they all blow. I may be wrong, but that is my initial impression.

in Two Betrayals, GS says that "This Halo ring has a blast radious effective to 25,000 light years. However, when the other Halo's follow suit, this galaxy will be quite devoid of life..."

so, yes, I think they are linked somehow

For some reason, I still find it difficult to believe that the Forunners, this super powerful ancient race, built a whole bunch of machines that could utterly wipe out all other life in the galaxy. Maybe the Halos were created before those crystals. It seems the crystals require more technology to make than the Halos. We know that the Covenant worship these ancients, so maybe the crystals, in conjunction with the Halos or something, is the key on bringing back the Forerunners. I seem to remember something Guilty Spark (or whatever that little floaty robot thingy was called) said about how he was waiting for the Forerunner's return or something. Anyways, I think the Halos are older technology because it seemed relatively easy to take out those little floaty Forerunner weapons inside the Halo installation.
