Subject: Bungie.net Member Status- demoted?

Hey everyone. So for the last few weeks or so I've been a Legendary Member, before that I was a Heroic Member ever since Bungie added the trust system in. As of today, my blacklisted ended for apparently "replying to spam" which I got banned for like 5 days...and now I'm all the way back down to a Member? I've been a member of this community for over 4 years and I've only been blacklisted 2 times. For something not even that serious "replying to spam". I don't really like this and I'd like to know if this is a glitch or did I seriously just go from Legendary to Member for a blacklisting. I didn't think it was possible to go down in rank and it's kind of disappointing to me. My Legendary Status made me feel like a good community member, now I'm as low as any person who has joined even though I've been around for years.

Also, at the Member Titles Thread it says this:
"LEGENDARY MEMBER
* Legendary Members are those members who have gained a certain amount of trust throughout their Bnet life. Usually this is for the members who have been here a while, haven't received many warnings (if any) or bans (if any). There are more than likely other factors as well (but we'll never know). Usually they have been here longer than "Heroic Members."

I don't know about you but 2 small, insignificant bans for something stupid isn't "many bans" so why did I get downgraded so much?
I'd appreciate it if a mod or Achronos replied, since he made the system.

Hello.

Getting blacklisted 2 TIMES can mean a lot.

Also, no one knows the system entirely sure.

Blacklisting means that your losing Bungie's trust.

Anymore info, and I will tell you.

EDIT: Wow. You have been here since '04. Your blacklists must have been big. I guess you will have to try to avoid blacklisting...

When you were banned your "trust" apparently went down losing your title. It's not like that permanently though.

well I think its pretty messed up. It's not like I spammed the forums or passed the curse filter or something severe. I just replied in a topic that had a link to something not related to Halo 3 and I get demoted ALL the way down to the lowest of member status. It sucks..

I just told you, I've been blacklisted TWO TIMES in the last FOUR years! How harsh is that to get demoted for 2 small blacklists. They were both for "replying to spam" it wasn't even a huge, horrible thing that I did. I'm an innocent victim! I do apologize for replying to a spam thread, but I shouldn't lose Bungie's trust over 2 bans in all these years. Oh yeah, I got blacklisted for like a week too for something so little. I could have gotten a warning or like a one day ban...and not have been demoted. It's upsetting to have this happen.

It doesn't matter how you got banned; the point is you did. It's all the same thing. You aren't innocent because you replied to a thread instead of reporting it. Don't think of the member titles as ranks. As far as I see you don't get demoted, you just lose it (Eh?). They are incentives for good community behavior. You'll get it back.

I think I was a little harsh. =/

Well I always report all bad threads, I never curse or spam. I'm a good B.net member, and I never reply to spam topics, except this one time and the one time I do 4 pages of people get banned. It's not the blacklist that bugs me...It's just after being a good member for 4 years, and getting banned for something so little and I go all the way down to the bottom. sigh....
Thanks though. Just wish it didn't happen.... the 1 week ban was harsh enough, I'm addicted to the forums and I kept forgetting I couldn't post, but lose my Legendary Member status...that's a bit too far =/

sig goes where?

the recency also affects the effect of Blacklistings on Trust

  • 03.07.2008 11:35 PM PDT

Does it really matter? They're just titles.

One guy one these forums actually tries to get demoted to be an anti-conformist.

+50 Respect man.

Yes you are indeed stripped of your fancy schmancy titles when you are blacklisted and/or warned. Dont worry though, they will come back but it might take a month or two, that is if they havent changed the system since I recieved my last warning.

As for why you got blacklisted, thats how I recieved my last warning. I mean its never amusing to get blacklisted/warned for something you in the moment considers to be trivial but in hindsight I think its good that the mods are enforcing the rules as much as possible and Ive learned my lesson.

Concerning the member titles thread, in my opinion thats not an official statement and should therefor have been deleted a long time ago so dont think too much of it. All it does now is making members think that thats how it works when it indeed isnt the whole truth and has room for a lot of interpretations. In contrast to what that thread says your title will be affected immediatly by a warning or atleast a blacklist.

eh, thanks for the answers guys. Hopefully I get my status back up to what it was soon...
I know the titles aren't that big of a deal but still....I liked being a Legendary Member. Now I feel like a Bungie newbie.

I know how you feel. I got demoted from Legendary, and I'm not even sure why. I did get a warning for an "off-topic post," and I also disagree vocally with Recon Number 54 for being a bit too dismissive of the community.

Is that all it takes?

It's two words next to your username.....It doesn't grant you any power, and for the most part, people don't really care what catagory you fall into. You either post good stuff, or crap stuff.....I wouldn't worry about it to much.

Anybody who gets banned loses their title. Period. Once the ban expires, the next time trust is updated (it is a daily thing), the system removes the minus infinity modifier on your trust rating, but you still have the negative influencer from having a recent ban in your history.

In your case, you got demoted ultimately to Heroic. Although, I probably should file a warning against you for whining about your title. Here's a quick tip: if you're whining about what title you have, YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT AND THUS DESERVE NOTHING. A "real" heroic or legendary member knows that have to earn their title, and if you got banned recently, consider yourself lucky to have any title at all. Hmmm, I think I will do just that... this whining about "my title went down" has gotten a little out of hand.

Owch. Harsh but if harsh gets results then I guess I'm for it. I think any threads winging about titles without good reason merit some kind of consequence, a warning in the very least.

Meh I'm not bothered about losing my title anymore, I know I'll get it back eventually provided I continue to act maturely and responsibly on these forums.

Heh, I paid a fine without doing a crime. Ah well, it is just gray text and a colour behind your name, it is meaningless really and yet we all want what we don't have.

Don't worry about it Tom T. I see your avatar and your name, and I know who you are, because I've seen you around. I don't care what title you have, and I'm willing to bet a lot of people don't care either.

Regardless of what two words are next to your username; you are Tom T 117. Others would probably save themselves a lot of stress if they realized that, as you seem to have.

Its obviously working because i will not pull a stupid like that ever again... and if you don't like it peace out and don't bother the over stress/worked mods, they have enough bull poo to deal with... w/out there legendary and heroic members looking like fools.

Achronos, with no (recent) bans or blacklists, why do I keep changing from Legendary to Mythic member, and back again...?

My innitial guess would be that you're teetering on the threshold between Legendary and Mythic. It doesn't matter, it will come when it comes....

That wouldn't help. It is hard to explain but titles are changing all the time, it has nothing to do with the cache.

I would assume that you are borderline between both and dependant on the number of secure Mythic members in reflection to insecure Mythics your title will change; you are probably swapping places with somebody else in a similar position to keep the numbers at the 200 Mythics maximum value.

Meh I'm probably completely wrong.
