MC's armor is worthless.

Ok so think about it, MC is a super soldier with so-called super armor.
But why lies between him and death? ONE BULLET.

The point that I'm trying to illustrate is that all of MC's protection lies
solely on his energy shield, not his armor. Without the shield, he is as
vulnerable as any Marine out there fighting with him. I know this makes
the game fun, but it doesn't make any sense that mankind's last hope,
the always wicked-badass mofo MC, drops dead so goddamn easily.

Are you referring to the no health bar thing? In the original Halo, he could take multiple hits before going down. Also, the same goes for Elites. When their shields go down, they are really vulnerable. MC is still a badass not because of how many bullets he can take, but the fact that he puts himself into the situations with all the bullets.

That might not be so, since his armor is different in Halo2, and even if it wasnt, Bungie might change it to be like that anyway. By the way, good point.

Not really, like rocks and splinters and stuff are blocked by the armor even if the shield is down. Thats important too if you know how big the aftermath of explosions are. And its also weakens the blow of projectiles like needlers because of the layers between him. There is also a phsyc. factor in armor like that. Increase in intimidation and morale. The marines feel safe with a super armored guy next to them fighting. Andlower enemies like grunts are scared and run away. The armor also can probably withstand different conditions and holds an entire AI. It also holds enough oxygen for 90 minutes

Yes in real life armor of the caliber that MC wears would protect you from many a weapon. But for the sake of gameplay, adding in one shot kills is for balance and skill. If it took just as many shots to the head to kill MC as it did anywhere else there'd be no skill in fighting, just shooting in the gut. As it is now in Halo, a man with a pistol can still take on a man with a shotgun at close range, if he can hit his head.

Absolutely. The Master Chief's armour, if anything, should be stronger then an URSA suit which has been designed using today's technology which is unaffected by small arms fire and can even protect you from a truck barreling at you at full speed.

Check out the URSA ....here...

I wonder if the armor will show accurate physical damage with enemy hits...

I doubt it, there hasnt been any sign of it so far, although I guess it's possible in SP. But all the MP armor has the same dints and scratches in the same spots for effect, like you've been through battle, it doesnt change for when you're hit

No Im not referring to the no health bar thing. This thought just came to me while playing with no shields. Just looking at mc's armor, thinking about all the science and technology that made master chief, the space age metals that are most likely thousands of times stronger than steel that make up his armor, and the masterful engineering of the whole project...designed to provide the utmost protection to the single most important person in all of humanity........but one pistol bullet kills him.

You just factor all that into it, and you come to realize MC's armor is worthless. He might as well be wearing a bikini...it wouldn't really matter as long as he still had an energy shield.

Now for the uber-dorks. Tell me more about the energy shields. Does the armor generate it? Whats the deal?

P.S. Thanks to Draerden for that awesome armor link!
P.S.S. This thread isn't meant to diss the way the game was made or anything, I just tend to have an eye for detail and continuity, and I never mind a good scientific conversation.

I dont remember how exactly the armor generates the shields, I know it was borrowed ideas from covenant (Forerunner rather) tech. But as far as the armor being worthless....was Halo fun? Playing No shields you obviously like the challenge...was that gametype fun? Did the lack of armor ever bother you in game? I think I know you're answer, bungie knows what a good game is.

I saw that on Discovery channel, A pair of razor sharp claws with hundreds of pounds of force couldnt penetrate it. But the MJOLNIR is comfortable and crap

DUDE!
MC is a SUPER soldier not a marine any way his armor makes him faster and stronger (it says in the books-if you can read)

Well, the pistol with one shot I can see, it uses a HE (high explosive) round, of 12.7mm I believe.

Dude, you obviously don't know where he gets his energy shield. His armor is what keeps that shield going AND his armor recharges it. Plus, it makes him stronger and stuff. That's how he can flip the tank over if you ever somehow end up with the tank upside-down.

so 1 shot with a 3 mm. slug loaded with e power wouldn't kill you if it hit you in the eye?

sorry, i mean 12.7

Oh yes, but in 500 years, you'd be able to reduce its overall size and with the addition of the shields that suit would be able to shrug off a tank round if it was real.

He should be able to throw on some disposable advanced ablative armour for the heavy stuff as well, like we do with ceramic inserts over kevlar.

I think you misinterpreted my comments. The shield is one of the most dynamc, exciting, and fun features in the game. It was just a thought in my head, that I thought was worth debating.

And Bungie knows exactly what a good game is. Although, the only Bungie game I've played is Halo.

Well, your argument is that high tech armor in the future should stop almost anything even without shields, well the weaponry would be just as high tech wouldnt it?

That's the point. To make the game fun and interesting they've made things weaker then they should be. This armour of the chief's *should* be more powerful then it appears in game. And also that the humans should be using guns that are a little more advanced. The human weapons technology seems to be fixed in the 1980's.

I see what you're saying about the armor, I mean at least against bullets it'd give a lot of resistance, in real life. But it is a game, and it's balanced nearly perfectly for how hard it is to kill someone. There's nothing to debate because making it realistic would make few weapons other than plasma very effective against the armor.

you see those lights on MC's armor, thats where the individual parts (aka hands, feet, head, etc.) of the shields are generated/controlled
