you see those lights on MC's armor, thats where the individual parts (aka hands, feet, head, etc.) of the shields are generated/controlled

I have a feeling that something as advanced as an energy shield would require something
more than a few LED's to create, manipulate, and control.

The problem is you people are referring to Multiplayer.

In Campaign mode a friend of mine and I checked to see how much it actually took to kill the MC.

MA5B: 22
M6D: 8
S2 AM: 2
M19 SSM: 1
Plasma Pistol: 20
Plasma Rifle: 20
Charged Plasma Pistol: 4
Plasma Grenade: 1 - 2
LAAG: 11
Frag: 2
Banshee Fuel Rod Gun: 3
Hunter Fuel Rod Gun: 2
Melee: 1 - 4
Scorpion Sub Gun: 22
Scorpion Main Gun: 1

These were all body shots. We then tested Headshots and the results were the same. After his shields dropped he could take a a significant amount of damage, even to the head (like some 4 pistol bullets)

So your assumption on the Chief's armor being worthless is wrong.....except in MP where things are a bit unbalanced in the Chief's terms.

XBL: FTG Spartan
But you were dead a thousand times. Hopeless encounters successfully won. A man long dead, grafted to machines your builders did not understand. You follow the path, fitting in to an infinite pattern.
Yours to manipulate, to destroy and rebuild.
Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.
I know who you are.
You are Destiny.

The armor is not worthless. If you read the books then you would know that the armor increases reaction time, enhances strength, heightens reflexes, the visor adjusts to protect his eyes from sudden bright flashes of light, and the armor has room to hold an A.I.

All this is way better than the average marine, even without the shields.

Coo thanks for the info....see the thing is I would probably enjoy the books, but I
care more about the actual game of Halo than the story. Plus I don't have time
time or money.

Your welcome. If you do get the time or money, I recommend trying to read them. It'll make the game much more enjoyable.

Are you people still complaining about the E3 demo? Teddman said in his Hands-On with the game "In my hour of playing, I never noticed this change affecting how I played the game. Infact I dare say that if you weren't looking for it, you'd never notice it by yourself." seriously why do people complain about silly things. Bungie is replacing things on the HUD with easy to understand symbols so when your low on health it will flash a warning. Now on the subject of the Armors strength remeber the bullets either use HE rounds or Armored Piercing rounds to negate armor's advantage and Plasma just burns through almost ANYTHING

He's talking abou the once the shields go down you only take a few shots and many people complain about that from what they have seen from the E3 demo and someone before mentions the E3 demo thing as well in THIS thread

MC's armor is worthless.

Ok so think about it, MC is a super soldier with so-called super armor.
But why lies between him and death? ONE BULLET.

The point that I'm trying to illustrate is that all of MC's protection lies
solely on his energy shield, not his armor. Without the shield, he is as
vulnerable as any Marine out there fighting with him. I know this makes
the game fun, but it doesn't make any sense that mankind's last hope,
the always wicked-badass mofo MC, drops dead so goddamn easily.

He is only a dam Human dam isn't like Termenator or something he is a Human that is smart and good in war like Solid Snake!!

i could have sworn Spartnas had compresed fusion or fision reactors on there backs to power and recahrge the sheilds, im almost positive it was in the novles........and about the two hunter fuel rod shots, what difficulty were you playing? i distictly remember taking a single direct hit from one and being vaporized, completely,on legendary,

Actually...

He is proabably smarter and a greater ground assault tactitian than Solid Snake or a lot of the generals in their time. He and the other spartans received intense education from an AI about everything known to humans. Also, the part probably emphasized in their education was history. Unfortunately that doesnt include covenant military history

That's not at all what -blam!-yov is talking about and the one person that did mistakenly think so was corrected. The point was that the Master Cheif's armour doesn't seem to do anything, nor the marines. It's as if he were like any of the regular crewmen running around in jumpsuits. You'd think the Chief with all that plating would be able to take a few more hits before going down then Keyes who doesn't wear any armour at all.

I only play on Legendary, that is where all of my numbers come from. Everything else is far too easy and annoying because of it.

in the books it also mentions how AR fire from the marines attacking the MC pretty much just bounced right off his armour even without the shields. if the gameplay used the strength of the armour like in the books it would be too easy. bungie bungie had to change it so that to damage ratio would keep the game challenging and fun

Subject: MC's armor is worthless? I DON'T THINK SO!!!

  • last post: 01.01.0001 12:00 AM PDT

Okay. So the MC's energy shield recharges right? And unlike acutal armor, it isn't gone after a couple of shots. Right? So which would you rather have? A recharging energy shield? Or a piece of steel that will barely protect you (otherwise known as "Ol' Skool Armor")?

Oh yeah!!! The armor has these things that keep the shot from getting through to your flesh! THINK ABOUT IT!!! Go back to Level 6. The flood head things would suck on a marine with no trouble at all until he was dead. You can survive that with your energy shields up. When they go down, you're as screwed and vulnerable as a marine. Without that recharge feature, you would not be able to survive when you lost all of your armor. SEE WHY THAT COMES IN HANDY??!!!

Absolutely. The Master Chief's armour, if anything, should be stronger then an URSA suit which has been designed using today's technology which is unaffected by small arms fire and can even protect you from a truck barreling at you at full speed.

Check out the URSA ....here. ..

I saw that on Discovery channel, A pair of razor sharp claws with hundreds of pounds of force couldnt penetrate it. But the MJOLNIR is comfortable and crap

The Mjolnir Mark VI is very comfortable and makes him stronger,Faster, and better reflexes says do in the books(Reading The Fall of Reach right now I'm on Chapter 8 , I got to chapter 8 in 2 hours.)

Okay Please dont flame me if this has been said all ready :)

I was thinking the other day.. We all know the master cheif is super strange and everything. but why when in Halo to he shoots both SMGs he gets recoil? i mean he can flip a tank but cant hold on to a gun.

  • 06.15.2004 9:08 PM PDT

Everyone keeps saying its so weak, and after the energy shield is gone, that the armor is worthless, because in a few shots, he would be dead. The year is what, 2552? The guns are a little more powerful then they are now. So the armor protects, its just that not as well as the energy shield. Besides, the point of the armor is for other things, like termanatordavid says here:

Not true. The weapons in Halo are based on current weapons. There are many rifles and weapons more advanced today then are available in Halo, the H&K G11 for instance or the new Dwyer VLE.

There are body armours today made from kevlar and ceramic plating that are more effective then the Mjolnir and that's without reaching into the realm of carbon composites that are in development now.

the first amor (the one has now) was meant to fight rebels (with crappy guns) not covenant with metal melting plasma sure he got his mjolnir after the war had started but not very far after at least not long enough to come up with an invincible amour think about it anytime someone makes an amour they always come up with a gun that can kill it

How do you know all guns in halo arnt uranium tipped bullets its a standard in that time maybe so they decided not to mention it like they dont say anymore yea that gun has a barrel and this one has a trigger thats standard what if everything in halo is carbon compsite bullets that just dont no matter what get stopped they probablly fly faster go farther and hit harder than every gun today

theres more of a science to it that just the bore size or the gun model
