For some reason every time I hit the report button nothing happens. This is just an example of me trying it earlier today. I hit the report button for the Origional Poster in this thread. The topic was not locked when it should have been for an all caps title and the thread goes against the rules

1. Optimatch Forum is to function as a direct line of communication from the fans to Bungie Studios. As such, posters will be expected to post and communicate like adults, that includes well-written, well-thought out posts using correct grammar and punctuation.

2. Subject lines for posts will include the complete topic to be discussed. Posts that are vague and/or cryptic in an attempt to get people to click through will be deleted and posters actioned against. Your subject is what we will see first and should serve as a thesis statement to your post. "So, Bungie..." is a pristine example of how not to post.
.

Because I think it is hard for a moderator to pic out an issue like this I think it is time a "Reason" message feature should be added to the report feature for threads. This idea has come up before. But until lately I have not seen a prime example of needing it. Basically the idea would give users the option to add a comment with their reported thread (Just as a moderator adds a comment to why members are blacklisted on the forums). This would be a huge benefit to moderators and posters a like because moderators would be easily able to point out the reason why a thread was reported. Post what you think and if you have any better ideas on how to make the report button more useful.

So I think Jun's a master chef, because he takes off his helmet and your like whoa, I think he's a chef.

So to shorten this up, Jun is master chef.

I think that the issue is that there are not enough moderators on at once to deal with all of the spam and reporting. You have to remember that in the Halo 3 Forum, there are probably tons of reports going on at once, making it hard for one or two moderators to keep track of everything.

I don't know how giving a reason would work. I think that it may actually have a negative effect because moderators will have to read more, slowing everything down, but I don't know. It would be better fit for a mod to respond.

I would like to have a reason feature, but perhaps it should optional. I have one question about the report button, though. When you report a thread, does it report the specific post you used, or the entire thread?

It reports the post. But the post is linked to the thread anyway.

Also the whole point is to have it optional. But it would still be useful.

Oh trust me I've noticed this for a long time. I've been suggesting that if a thread or posts gets a certain number of reports it gets flagged for "auto-lock" then the mods see what thread was auto-locked and agree if and what the ban is.

Edit: Yeah, about the avatar thing I got bored and picked a random one.

What does the report button do? I think it should either message the mods with the link or instead of the green plus next to the post, it should be like a red X or something. Either way, it should be a lot faster than what it does now. When I report stuff, it rarely gets locked by the time its at the end of the page.

I just wanted to know because I most often report someone for bumping a thread. I was hoping that when I reported them, the person who checked out the report would automatically be sent to the person's post that he used to bump.

I have to agree, I've yet to see a thread I reported be dealt with.

the other day I watched five topics sit on the front page of the Septagon that all were reported and none ended up locked.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Remember that reporting a thread alone is not grounds for it to be locked. It is still up to the moderator who examines the thread to determine if it should or should not be locked.

A thread about Recon armor in the septagon, and why the user should have it, definitely deserves to be locked.

Happiness=Suffering
Suffering=Happiness

it doesn't seem to work for me, i got blaclisted for posting on the classifieds and there are still threads on there which need locking cos they've got tons of replies so i reported them, probably a week ago. An would you look at that, they're still there

It works, I report a ton of threads which do eventually get locked. The workload is probably huge though hence without biologically altered super moderators we'll never see the ideal "Immediate Response" but during peak times when several mods are on you'd be surprised how quickly they react.

I've seen moderators react fast, even back when there were only like 16 of them, my problem is that I can't recall a thread I've reported in the septagon getting locked, I think the moderators are forced to focus on the Halo 3 forum too much, and less traveled forums suffer because of it.

Taxes do nothing to affect the share of wealth, since taxes are only applied to income.

So that's not even a part of the conversation at all, so it's pointless talking about it....

"for a "best" moral to exist, there must exist the "best" moral base. If the base of morality varies from location to location, culture to culture...then there can't be an absolute moral..

i do not see how this feature would help mods make decisions about potentially inappropriate threads. when we report a post to them, they have to read it before they make a decision. this would be the case with or without adding additional features. if a mod reads a post and does not deem it in appropriate, then that should be the end of it.

plus, i doubt that the lack of punishment being meted out against in appropriate posts is because they look at reported posts but cannot reach a proper judgment without our help. i do not know the cause, but for some reason, there are loads and loads of inappropriate threads that remain open. i do not even want to guess how many inappropriate posts go without punishment after being reported.

The whole point is to pin point the exact reason you chose to report the thread. The moderator can easily detect the problem and resolve. Sometimes I feel that the problem is too diffictult to pinpoint out. This would make it easier.

Moderators (mostly) aren't idiots. They can see why a post has been flagged. The only issue i see at the moment is volume of work to be done to the number of ninjas active. That's something achronos has said time and again he doesnt want to change significantly, so there's not really much to be done. That said, we've had the statement "member titles will never be introduced" in the past, too, so who knows?

Hello.

I guess I am lucky. I had a post in the Classifides, and some guy advertised his group on my thread. Later, I noticed that the user's post had disappeared....

Of course, I am up for improvements.
