Actually, that's not true either. A beta test with Microsoft in general, and Bungie in particular, involves a contract between you and Bungie. Often an non-disclosure agreement, or NDA for short, is signed before the tester can even recieve their job.
And, once you begin testing the game, it isn't (entirely) about having fun. You have to find bugs, try to make the game crash, see where the game slows down, take note of EVERY imperfection, and then you have to report it.
Lastly, console titles like Halo 2 are not tested on regular XBoxes, but special developer XBoxes, which are only given to developers and members of Microsoft's internal testing team. To get into the testing team, you have to apply, as it is a job, and the same federal laws that apply to all other jobs apply to Quality Assurance as well. So... You're still out of luck. Sorry. =)
