people should be able to type however they want; "freedom of speech",dude

What makes me really sad about this statement is that you really mean it. Correct me if im wrong but this is a privately owned website, and they are gracious enough to let a community happen here if they want said community to avoid such simple things as no caps in the title of a thread then so be it.

Why is Captain Kirk climbing the mountain?

This isn't a democracy, it's a Bungocracy and what they say goes if you don't like it, then thats your problem they make the rules, you just have to deal with them. Anyways Caps titles are annoying as hell thank god for the no caps rule.

I AGREE. RULES ARE THERE TO MAINTAIN ORDER. WHAT GOOD IS IT IF SOME PEOPLE IGNORE THEM BASED ON TEXT COLOUR?

Hey, Pezza

On a sidenote, someone wrote in all caps on a district wide test this year. It made our entire class laugh when he went over it.

Are you serious?

Look, I was not trying to say "screw the rules I'll do what I want". The old "don't reply to topics in this forum" sticky was not getting any attention, because people were replying to topics in there anyway. We're kinda serious about that "not replying" rule, and I was banning quite a few users in there everyday.

So since the old way was not working, I decided to make sure that everyone could see that we do not want people to reply in that forum. The only way that I could do that was by creating an all caps title in order to get everyone's attention. Though it may be a bit hypocritical, it was actually done pragmatically. We had a problem, and we needed some way to try to fix it. After I made that, people started to reply much less frequently in that forum, so it sort of worked.

We have the "don't make all caps titles" rules because people were making lots of all caps titles in all the forums. I at least think they're eyesores, and totally pointless. If your topic does not garner discussion or attention on its own merits, oh well. There is no real reason why one would make an all caps title unless they're were seeking attention. On these boards, no thread is really more important than any other topics. No thread is in greater need of attention than any other thread, with one exception. That exception is when the people who run or regulate the site need the users to look at something because it pertains to the functionability of the site.

I thought that thread was necessary to the functionability of the Classifieds forum, so I created it. If you think I was overstepping my bounds so be it. Though I think that rational people would agree that there is no harm in making an all caps title when that thread actually warrants attention.

Incidentally, when I created it I left a comment like "Look what you made me do! You made me make an all caps title. I hope you're happy" in tongue in cheek at the bottom of the post. It was deleted when it was edited in order to be updated. So, the irony is not lost on me, but I think that irony is very subtle at best.

i agree but i still beleive that you should have put something like this in front of it:
IMPORTANT: please do not reply to.......

There is a "M. Night Smamalamadingdong Twist" to this rule..

A Thread with the title "All Caps" will be locked, it is just a coincidence that most all capital letter titled thread get locked. (people just mis-interpret the rule)

If you ask me (and no one has), the "all caps rule" is actually based on something a bit wider reaching.

Using formatting tricks to draw attention to "your thread" is a bad idea. Make the subject line interesting based on what it contains, not in how you formatted it.

So (for me) the "all caps rule" also extends to extended characters, ASCII symbols, tons of punctuation, and other eye-catching eyesores that people think will "make my good thread more noticeable than all of this other crap".

Trust me, if you need that sort of "help" to get noticed? Then the topic is already in trouble.

So like...

XxX*x☺♣•AWESOME THREADXxXx○♣♦Ö

It's also funny when people try use Text Formats (Like bold and italic) in their thread title :P

Ah, but there's no "freedom of speech" on Bungie.net.

It's also not fair to let people get grab some cheap attention because they can press the CAP LOCKS button, or they can add *asterisks*.

See my point?

i agree. But they want it to catch your eye so that you don't get warned. It's not that are showing you that they can break the rules and you can't, they just want to make sure you follow the rules. But I see what you are saying.

They aren't parents.
Thank you.

No they have no responsibility to set example. They do what they want on their site and you follow what they tell you to do or you are punished by their means. That is pretty damn shiny clear.

They aren't parents.

They drink, they curse, they are mean to small animals. But they make cool games.

They are not bound by the same rules on this site as we are. We had to agree to those rules as a condition of joining the site. They entered through a different door and have different rules to follow.

We need to follow our agreements, and they have their own to worry about. And the Webmaster.

Actually, most parents are the same way. Kids can get really angry at their parents when they realize that their parents were cursing behind their backs the whole time they made them wash their mouths out with soap for doing it.

But did the parents have the right to do that? Of course they did. It is better for the well-being of the child as they grow up, and they have the right to enforce any rules they want in their own house. If they curse themselves, but disallow their children from cursing, in the simple hope of having a more organized household, then it is better for the whole house that way.

So, children, instead of complaining about hypocrisy, you should be telling on the other children.

Anyways, its their website, so they can do what they feel is right. It might not seem fair, but its not a big deal. Just don't post in all-caps.

Also, they much more to worry about than posting an all-caps title. They have to maintain the website.
