Subject: Trophy shot as Forum Avatar?

Bungie's On To Me!
More Webcam Awesomeness
And more....

I received Recon for being awesome. Like it matters anymore. Thanks ODST! :D

Do you think this would be a good idea. That way people could have more variety on what they have as their avatar in the Halo 3 forum.

Just add the option for Halo 3 trophy shot.

What do you guys think?

I moved this to the Septagon as it's a website related issue.

I would have to say it's a bad idea mainly because people can be a little too specific in what pictures can be recreated with Forge.

OOPS!!! BIG MESS UP!

I meant to post it here. For some reason my comp has been acting up! I even tried PMing someone and it turned it into a forum post in the H3 forum. Sorry guys! :'(

Yeah i say no just because of the pictures going around that are innaporopiate it wouldnt do any good but it would help for bungie picking bungie favorites and stuff for that matter.

I agree, but what if you could pick one part of the screenshot as your Avatar. Kind of like what other websites do, if the image is to big, It lets you pick part of the image, that is a square the size of an avatar. That way you don't have your whole picture in the avatar..

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

It could turn horribly wrong, as I'm sure most of us have seen the more inappropriate screenshots from Halo 3. The main problem I see though is the resolution and the sheer size of the picture in the first place. Being scaled down to that size would completely ruin an image; which would originally be quite a bit larger.

I don't think you got the point I was trying to get across. People can (and have) created pictures of reproductive organs using items in Forge. I would rather not have to moderate that too.

Report Post buttons are good for more than just rule breaking text. You could report someone who has an inappropriate avatar. I sort of like this idea. It is creative and interesting.

Your jobs hard enough already with some of the stupidity on these forums. Bumps are even worse than recon threads now. same with all cap threads. And don't even get me started on all cap recon threads...with bumpers....

People could easily write "Blam You". IMO XBL Gamerpictures would be an easy way to get more avatars (if that was necessary). They are (at least they should be) 100% appropriate, and they are already on this site, in the "XBL Gamercard" area. So that shouldn't be to bad.

Maybe if we could try it out for a few weeks, see how it works out. I mean we never know if we don't try.

If not, I like that gamerpic avatar idea, maybe even be able to use our whole gamercards with our recently played games and all that :)

Eating bandwidth and server capacity along with the size issue are IMO good arguments for not implementing this feature. I´m not so sure about the reproductive organ part though. I just feel like if that would be an issue then this site has taken it way too far when it comes to censurship.

The games that 99,99 % of the people here have come for are rated M and if the same people cant see a mid section organ created by boxes in forge then theres something seriously wrong. I cant recall the last time i saw anything even remotely related to the frisky business on any game site forum although many of them have the option of using whatever avatar you wish. Its like Bungie is admitting that this indeed is the most immature community on the interwebs. Not saying that the latter is wrong but just hang up a warning instead and let the kids deal with it, might get rid of the idiocy in some of the forums as a bonus.

Avatars are WAY too small for the images to be of any use. Also as people have said it would be an unneeded strain on the site.

You would be resizing a 1920 x 1080 photo to a 90 x 90. It would look horrible. At least I think it's that size.

i would agree. plus all the streaming of the photos would slow the website down...

QFT.

Living in so much fear and distrust is really getting annoying here. The first three replies to any suggestion topic are generally extremely negative. Does anyone ever give it a chance for discussion at least?

All the system needs to do is resize and save the image as a 90x90 .gif/.jpg file and then make it available in your avatar section. With the sheer amount of power already devoted to this site, such a system would be a minimal hindrance to the bandwidth usage. Downsizing images actually increases quality visually with less information used. Try it in on any image. When you minimize an image in whatever you are viewing it in, it actually starts to look better as it gets smaller.

I imagine the Armour permutation and Emblem avatar's took up quite a bit of bandwith.

And Trophy Shot's have a lot more detail, so the site will be even more laggier, even though they record every little thing you do on halo.

And yeah, have you seen what people have created in forge, don't know if you've ever seen the picture called "The Missionary"

July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

Always assume that non-Bungie controlled content on Bungie.net (as in choosing your own avatar) will be abused by someone. Thanks to that one person, we all must suffer for it. It's unfortunate really... But that's the way it works I guess.

I get more ass than a toilet seat.

Yes, some people have...creative imaginations. Also some of the pics would be too big making the site laggy etc.

Does ANYONE read what I post? I swear! The image is already hosted here, so it wouldn't make the site any laggier than it already is. All we would end up with is a few extra kilobytes of pixel data from 90x90 gif's, one per member. It is really not a big deal guys.

This feature could also arise to "avatar of the month/week" by Bungie, and possible additions of screenshot avatars to the general public's avatar selections. People need to look beyond the negative points of an idea and see the good ones, I am tired of all the "but it will be abused" excuses.
