No, don't waste your money. It will only disappoint and run laggy with most settings turned off. And hell yeah, WAY better. You need to know what your slot is, AGP or PCI.

I recommend the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. It's a great card for the price. check the sticky for more info.

Well, I assume that's with hardly anything enabled.

If you want to play next generation games as well, at least think about the ATI 9600XT. It comes with Half-Life 2 and is one of the best price/performance retio cards on the market. Hell, its core is 500MHz, just as fast as the new ones out today!

Hmm, if you are tight on the wallet, an FX5700 is probably okay, though.

What's your framerate and do you ever lag, because if you don't and your frame rate is good there is no way you own a 9200. It's really hard to believe that. I get slowdown with my 9600XT, and in performance tests it's about twice to three times as fast as the 9200.

bout 50-60 FPS, and its at about 260mHZ Core clock, and 216mHZ memory clock

i lag when there are like 20 enemies on screen, or when there are huge explosions in MP or campaign, ill OC it to about 270 and 225 tonight tho

Timedemo results:

Average frame rate=39.83fps
Resolution= 640 x 480
Refresh rate= 60 Hz
Framerate throttle= No Vsync
Specular= Yes
Shadows= Yes
Decals= Yes
Particles= Off
Texture Quality= High

Interesting, those are the specs for my P4 2.8GHz and 512MB ram computer with my 9600XT. Those are the same things you have enabled...yet you get 50-60 fps with a 9200? You'd need like a 9800 Pro to get that. Not even overclocking can get you to 9600XT speeds. My core is 525MHz...

I have a 9200 with all the settings maxed out and i have no visual problems. My old card was a gforce fx 5200 os it was a big improvement for me

True, running at 640x480 (which is still better than what Halo on XBox can do) with settings maxed will be consistent in all but the big fight scenes. However, there's no way you can get 50-60 fps with it. That's all I was saying - I think darth may be estimating a bit too generously :P

A good card that runs games, even newer ones consistently is the 9600XT or Pro. It's only about $120, and has one of the best performance/price ratios. It's able to run Doom3...the 9200 would hardly do that. It can also run Far Cry fairly well - the 9200 would be hard pressed on that game. I'm just saying that if you don't want to upgrade in another year or so, the 9600 series is a good buy.

Is a radeon 9200 card adequate??

Hmmm, probably not. Your best bet is anything from a Radeon 9600XT and up.

i have a 9200 and i have one problem with it that i didnt have with my gFORCE for 440 MX: when I use active camou in the game, it blinks!! like, it ... blinks... so when others are camoued up, i can still see them... it's weird... i got it, it was 95 bucks, and it works good for the games i play....

yoo•zel- ('yoo-zhul): slang: vb.

I wouldn’t recommend the 9200, I have one and it’s not worth if you intend to play more advanced games in the future. Definitely go for something higher, at least a 9600+, you’ll be a lot happier.
