E=mc2 is a theory developed (for lack of a better word) by Albert Einstein in the early 20th century that states that energy and mass is interchangeable. However, the amount of enery contained in even a minute piece of matter is titanic. As you can see, the amount of energy contained in a piece of matter can be determined if you multiply the mass of the object with the speed of light (300,000,000 m/s) squared. Note that the speed of light is an already gigantic number even if it isn't being squared. This means that a .0001 kg piece of mattter contains 9 trillion joules of energy.
