Unfortunately, about 3 hours. 4 vs 4 on Sidewinder. Got a bit of a story to it.
I persuaded 7 of my gaming mates to try CTF. My mates loved Team Slayers so much and they found Capture the Flag matches boring. It was the first CTF most of my friends had really tried. I get bored of this CTF too, mainly because I am the only one going for the flag, the rest are acting like its an unlimited kills and running around the match in search of the enemy.
The enemy base was easy to infiltrate as no-one could care less about the flag. At the beginning of the game I secured a lead of 3 (out of 5 captures) and realised that I wasn't going to win over my friends with CTF, so I just joined the onslaught.
After about 1 hour 30 mins (2 hours into the game), I heard "Blue team, have the flag". Could it be? Is one of my friends so mind numbingly bored that he's gunna give CTF a go? Answer was yes, I saw him running for a Ghost (carrying the flag) at my base. I decided not to actually kill him, but send sniper trails his way to give him the feeling of running a flag home with the enemy on his back. I did this right along the map, it made my look like a crap sniper but I think it was worth it. He scored (3 to 1).
By the time I got back to my base 2 enemies stormed the base in a Warthog. Eventually I had all of my friends playing CTF rather than Slayer and it was a real CTF game. It did seem a little unfair that we had the advantage (3 to 1) but the other team seemed persistant to win.
We spent to last hour battling it out for each others flag. Eventually it was 4 to 3 (out of 5) to us. We did one last assault and got the flag, took it home and got the point. After the game I asked everyone what they thought of the game and they loved it. We played one more CTF on Blood Gulch and then finished for the day.
Now we play about 20% Team Slayer, 50% CTF, 20% King of the Hill and 10% Oddball. Its balanced out more too as everytime I introduce a new gametype they like it and end up wanting to play lots more.
