It's cause of the creative plot! It is a cyborg halfway across the universe killing aliens to save the human race...wait a second...
I think its cause of the motion tracker, for me. You can utalize it very effectively, and it adds a WHOLE new aspect to the game (which some people hate cause they can't use it for its full potential). It takes skill and pays off, but doesn't make the game. I can tell where you are (elevation wise, what you probably have) all by looking at my motion tracker to track your movements, but if you creep up like a SMART person would against a base you wouldn't be seen as easily.
It has balance issues and stuff, but it is a beauty of a game; my brother (very late teens) looked at the new coagulation and said "god damn, it's like I'm in a landscape picture."
It has also spawned a LARGE fan base from Halo 1, which is a big reason why they have so many players.
Halo doesn't have too many glaring errors that make the game annoying and unplayable for many; it doesn't make people want to quit playing because of certain aspects of the game (for the most part), or just because they are not very skilled.
